That's the logical thing to do but I doubt if LVG is willing to accept it. It's left to Ed to show him the damn stats and convince him that he has an important role in rebuilding the club. The scope is much wider than the one offered by the Dutch FA.

Scholes in Van Gaal dig? 'The FA Cup wasn't a priority… we were in the Champions League!'

The former Red Devils midfielder says his old club haven't won the famous domestic trophy since 2004 because they have usually had bigger fish to fry in recent years

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes appears to have issued yet another jibe towards Louis van Gaal ahead of Saturday's FA Cup final.

United are hoping to put some gloss on what has been a largely disappointing campaign for the Red Devils by overcoming Crystal Palace to win the competition for the first time since 2004.

Once the record holders for most FA Cup wins, United have slipped behind Arsenal having not claimed the trophy for 12 years, reaching just two finals in that time.

But Scholes, who has been outspoken against Van Gaal throughout the season, looks to have launched another dig the Dutchman's way by saying the reason why club haven't enjoyed success in the tournament for a number of seasons prior to this year is because they've usually had bigger fish to fry.

"It [the drought] has been disappointing as we obviously want to be in the FA Cup final as it's a big day," Scholes, who won three FA Cups with United, told Manchester Evening News.

"It's long overdue but I also think it hasn't really been a priority. We all know it's a massive major competition but was it the priority over the Champions League or the Premier League?

"We always seem to go after those two which you can probably understand and a lot of the times we would go out of the FA Cup as our team was missing players that would needed to be rested for the big Champions League and Premier League games."

United crashed out of the Champions League group stages before failing to book their place back in Europe's elite club competition for next season with a fifth-place finish under Van Gaal this term.

Van Gaal's charges are heading into the showpiece event at Wembley as favourites as they seek to put an end to their three-year wait to win any piece of silverware.

However, Scholes says Palace have the ability to cause any side problems on their day and has urged United not to take them lightly.

"I think people are probably assuming United are going to win it but it's going to be a tough game," he added.

"Crystal Palace are a decent side and I think they can cause any teams problems, so I think it will be tight."

Jose Mourinho: Former Chelsea boss to be named Manchester United manager

United will appoint Jose Mourinho as their new manager, BBC Sport understands.

Mourinho has been out of work since he was sacked by Chelsea in December.

With United failing to qualify for the Champions League under Louis van Gaal, the Old Trafford hierarchy are thought to have decided a change is required.

It is understood a deal with Mourinho was agreed in principle before Saturday's FA Cup final victory against Crystal Palace.

Manchester United are set to announce that a three-year deal has been brokered to make José Mourinho the new first team manager. The Old Trafford hierarchy is expected to issue a statement following today's FA Cup final between Louis van Gaal's side and Crystal Palace.
Negotiations between Ed Woodward, the Premier League club’s executive vice-president, and Jorge Mendes, the 53-year-old’s agent, took place weeks ago; however, some uncertainty about the appointment still lingered within the Red Devils’ board room. Nonetheless, the conclusion was eventually made that irrespective of today’s result at Wembley, Van Gaal’s tenure has come to an end. Mourinho signed a pre-contract with Man United stipulating that should the Portuguese tactician not take charge of the team, he would be entitled to millions of euro in compensation.

Mourinho could earn €15 million a season as Man Utd coach

As well as being remunerated handsomely – his salary could reach €15 million per season - Mourinho has also asked the club’s owners for a drastic overhaul of the squad. Bearing in mind that United’s cross-city rivals will be giving new manager Pep Guardiola access to a deep war chest, this news makes it very likely that Manchester will be the world capital of big-money transfers this summer. Speculation abounds about Real Madrid and Barcelona players being pursued to enact the desired personnel changes. Mourinho’s arrival puts Juan Mata’s future at Old Trafford in doubt; the diminutive midfielder was forced to leave Chelsea two years ago due to the Special One lacking faith in his abilities.
There had been talk of Van Gaal staying on and taking over from David Gill as the club’s sporting director, so as to work side by side with Mourinho. However, in the end it has been decided that the Dutchman will leave. Manchester United failure to qualify for next season’s Champions League, and the financial implications that will entail, is a fact that is not lost on fans. The poor personal relationships that exist between Van Gaal and the majority of his players only goes to reinforce the decision to cut ties with him.

Not sure how it leaked to the media. If it's from the BBC, you can be sure that there is an element of truth in it. The rumour has gone on for months and I reckon doubts started to creep in after United's exit from CL in the group stages (the weakest gp. IMO).

Me still thinks they will make the announcement in June which is only one and a half weeks away but news coming in suggest otherwise.

Mou and his agent has yet to discuss the details which could take a while. I fear the worse for the young players and it could spell the end of the Old Trafford careers for some of the seniors. The ones who are definitely safe are DG, Martial, Rooney, Smalling, Shaw.

Blind may not be Mou's type of player as he lacks pace but makes up for his intelligence and reading of the game. I believe Carrick and Blind will be shown the door.Pity.

Another Leicester moment came when Hibs beat Rangers 3-2 in the final. That was another fairy tale ending.

It was a classic game in the Polka final. Pep transformed Bayern into a dominant attacking team-total football at its best. Dortmund could have stolen the final had Aubemayang not miss the sitter. Truly riveting game. Bayern were the deserving winners in the end.

This is probably the best and most memorable season ever in terms of results and entertainment. :D:D:D

I think the annoucement could come as early as today. I've put my opinion in the TCSS thread about this whole fiasco.

The player I feel most sorry for is Juan Mata. Clearly, he was a favorite of LvG but I fear he'll be let go...

Louis van Gaal: Man Utd boss says goodbye
but awaits news on his future

By Simon Stone and Dan Roan
BBC Sport

http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/36353943

Louis van Gaal said goodbye to members of Manchester United's staff on Sunday
without knowing if he was bidding farewell for the final time.

The BBC understands that Saturday's FA Cup final win over Crystal Palace was Van Gaal's last game as manager.

It is believed that by the time they arrived back in the north-west, neither the Dutchman
nor his coaching staff had been told what was happening by United.

The club is set to appoint Jose Mourinho as manager later this week.

Before he left London, Van Gaal told some staff he did not know if he would see them again,
although the 64-year-old said later he still "hoped" to be in charge for the final year of his three-year contract.

Van Gaal said "it's over" when a reporter approached him as he left the hotel on Sunday
- but he is said to have been referring to his side's season rather than his own job.
Other members of Van Gaal's Old Trafford staff are believed to be unhappy at the lack of communication from the club's hierarchy.

United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward, as well as Joel and Avie Glazer, part of the American family who own the Premier League club,
were at Wembley on Saturday - but they are not thought to have spoken to Van Gaal at a function following the 2-1 win over Crystal Palace.

As the reports about Van Gaal's impending departure grew in volume, the function is said to have been a sombre affair.
Neither Van Gaal nor Woodward addressed staff collectively in the wake of the club's first triumph since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement in 2013.
In the past, Ferguson or former chief executive David Gill would have expressed their gratitude for the hard work involved in winning a major prize.
The silence must end soon as, with United failing to qualify for next season's Champions League under Van Gaal, the Old Trafford hierarchy
is thought to have decided a change is required.

BBC Sport revealed on Saturday that
United are set to appoint Mourinho as the former Barcelona, Bayern Munich
and Netherlands manager's replacement. Mourinho is preparing to hold direct talks with senior United officials on Tuesday.
Assuming final details can be agreed, an announcement and formal unveiling could happen quickly.

His agent Jorge Mendes is currently on a business trip in Shanghai but will leave to return to Europe on Monday.
The Portuguese, 53, was
sacked by Chelsea in December, seven months after the Stamford Bridge club won the Premier League title.
Mourinho, who won three league titles in two spells at Chelsea, has been out of work since.

He was at heavyweight boxer
David Haye's win in London on Saturday evening but repeatedly declined to comment on whether he was about to succeed Van Gaal.

José Mourinho targets John Stones in £150m Manchester United spree
• Incoming United manager also wants Juventus forward Álvaro Morata
• Juan Mata’s place could be vulnerable when Portuguese takes over

José Mourinho has identified André Gomes, João Mário, John Stones, Álvaro Morata, Mauro Icardi and Ezequiel Garay as summer targets
for Manchester United as part of an anticipated minimum £150m spend.
José Mourinho can mould an exciting, attacking Manchester United side

The Portuguese’s imminent replacement of Louis van Gaal as manager will lead to major surgery on the squad but has boosted several previously unhappy players,
notably David de Gea, Michael Carrick and Ander Herrera. Juan Mata, though, scorer of the equaliser in Saturday’s FA Cup final, could leave,
as Mourinho sold the Spaniard to United in January 2014 when he was in charge of Chelsea.

Mourinho is understood to retain an interest in Stones, who is valued at more than £40m and whom he tried to sign for Chelsea from Everton last summer,
and faces a fight for the England international with Manchester City. United have also made inquiries to Juventus about Morata’s team-mates Alex Sandro,
left-back, and Paul Pogba, the former United midfielder. However the club was quoted £116m (€150m) for each, a price designed to end United’s interest.

It would constitute a major surprise if United were not to confirm Van Gaal’s departure on Monday and swiftly install Mourinho.
Despite Mourinho being out of work since December and having no formal contact with Ed Woodward until this month, when the executive vice‑chairman finally
made a move for him, the Portuguese has been drawing up a list of potential acquisitions in the expectation of being offered the job.

If we look at the top teams in the BPL this season Leicester , Ars n Tottenham they have one common trait - they are fucking fast. And this is the trait that LVG came n successfully snuffed out from Man U over 2 seasons. You can say Moyes started neutering it n LVG added the finishing touches.

Mata is a brilliant player, a good playmaker. But he is damm slow thus cannot dribble. But he has a knack of scoring crucial goals like the equaliser against crystal palace. I hate to see him go but he is not the way Man U shld be playing. We want the Man U that boss other teams. Reminiscing the Chelsea team with costa n fabregas n hazard that bossed the BPL the season that Mourinho returned.

Whatever said about Mourinho n the non lasting managerial stint that he never stayed beyond 3 seasons. The game has changed. Fans want trophies and fans want team to be challenging for titles. Sponsorship depends on that. No one care so much about youth or tradition anymore. Times have changed. There is so much money involved in sponsorships n stock prices. Liverpool is rich in tradition but you can only talk about it and it's worthless without silverware.

The fairy tale of Leicester will give teams like Tottenham, west ham belief n next season will b more challenging. I cannot imagine the same boring ineffective style of playing under LVG.

Mourinho plays effective Football - he know how to win. Even 1-0 is a win. LVG preach possession Football that will end up losing 1-0. What's the point of hoarding the ball if you cannot win ?

Bye LVG you will not be missed.

The transition game is not there. That could be attributed to the manager's tactics and instruction to the players. IMO, it was really down to a missing key element in the middle of the park. A midfielder with a vision and ability to facilitate the transition game. It was only recently that 300 pound per week idiot decided he was best for that role.

Bro, I beg to disagree "No one care so much about youth or tradition anymore".There are millions including myself who want to see young players kick start the careers in the theater of dreams. It could all end with Mou coming in.

Some of the players in the shortlist mentioned will not make it at the club. Let's hope Mou changes or we'll have to get use to his moaning, complain, altercation with just about everybody in football.

Gigg's knows that with Mou in, any hopes for the young players making it to the senior squad will be extinguished. Just look at Mou's track record.
