Manchester United plotting sensational £50m swoop on Southampton

http://talksport.com/football/manch...p-southampton-14040386032#WAxo7Ctt3CeheaU7.99

Manchester United are lining up a sensational £50million double swoop on Southampton for their star duo Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw.

After a poor first season at the helm, United boss David Moyes will look to significantly reshape his squad this summer and the Saints pair are high on his shopping list.

Chelsea are also keen on Shaw, a lifelong Blues fan, but talkSPORT understands United have moved into pole position to secure the 18-year-old full-back's signature.

And midfielder Lallana could be on his way to Old Trafford along with Shaw as part of a massive deal. The Saints skipper has impressed for club and country this season, scoring nine goals in the Premier League and making his England debut against Chile last November, and has emerged as a top target for United.

Moyes will look to conclude as much business as possible before the start of the World Cup, with reports of a deal in place for Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho.

£50m for both Lallana and Shaw. Isn't that how much Chelsea paid for that chump Fernando Torres? LOL!

Venue: St James' Park Date: Saturday, 5 April

TEAM NEWS
Newcastle's injury woes continue, with Moussa Sissoko joining their lengthy list of absentees with a thigh strain.
He joins the likes of Tim Krul, Mathieu Debuchy and Loic Remy on the sidelines.

Manchester United duo Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans are back in training and available to play but Robin van Persie remains out.

Rafael and Ryan Giggs are doubts, but Alex Buttner is fit, while Juan Mata and Patrice Evra return after missing the midweek draw with Bayern Munich.

MATCH PREVIEW

It's unusual for this fixture, at this stage of the season, not to be one of importance towards the top of the Premier League. However, make no mistake, it's hugely significant for both of these clubs in their current predicament.

LAWRO'S PREDICTION

Mark Lawrenson
Football analyst
"I will be at St James' Park for this game and I am not expecting a lot from Newcastle. They were thrashed 4-0 by Southampton last week and they were absolutely hopeless.

"For a few weeks now, it has felt like the Magpies' season is over and Alan Pardew's absence from the dug-out has not helped."

Read Lawro's full prediction and score
In Manchester United's rollercoaster season of transition there have been small signs of hope and recovery at times, only to then be followed by another negative result.

Their midweek Champions League draw with Bayern Munich defied the odds and will have lifted spirits on the back of victory over Aston Villa. But they will be desperate to avoid any more damaging headlines ahead of their trip to Bavaria next Wednesday.

Amazingly, the reigning champions have saved some of their better performances away from Old Trafford and have the best record on the road in the entire league. A fourth successive away win would be a timely tonic before they face their huge challenge in Germany, which is followed by David Moyes' first return to Everton.

In their search for consistency they could point to four league wins in their last six games but that masks the dark defeats at home to Liverpool and Manchester City.

If Newcastle can inflict an 11th league defeat on them this season it would go some away to lifting the ever dampening spirits on Tyneside. They are a team that have now lost nine of their last 14 matches and haven't scored in 10 of them.

Alan Pardew couldn't defend the criticism that came his team's way after last weekend's capitulation against Southampton and has made it clear he expects a reaction.

Both he and Moyes have a big summer ahead of them and will already have thoughts about next season when analysing certain players in the remaining games.

The corresponding fixture back in December was one of Newcastle's brighter moments of the campaign, when they secured their first win at Old Trafford since 1972. If there's a loser in this one, there'll be yet another uncomfortable weekend ahead.

MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head
Newcastle won
the reverse fixture 1-0 in December courtesy of a goal by Yohan Cabaye, their first win at Old Trafford since 1972.

Victory for Newcastle would see them complete the league double over Manchester United for the first time since the 1930-31 season.

Newcastle
Newcastle have lost nine of their last 14 Premier League matches (W4, D1).

The Magpies have conceded seven goals in their last two league games but have failed to score themselves.
Alan Pardew's men have won as many league games as they have lost this season (14) but conceded nine goals more than they have scored.

Newcastle have scored in the 90th minute or later in each of their last four league victories, Two of those goals proved to be the winner.

Manchester United
They have the best away record in the Premier League, earning 30 points from a possible 48.
United are on an four-match unbeaten away run (W3, D1) and have kept clean sheets in all of those games.

The Red Devils are yet to lose a league game in which they have taken the lead (W12, D2).

David Moyes' side have won only two of 15 matches against other sides in the top half of the table (W2, D4, L9).
Wayne Rooney has scored six goals in his last six league appearances. Only against Aston Villa (12) has he scored more Premier League goals than against Newcastle (10).

Newcastle 0 - 4 Man Utd

As I've mentioned before, play Mata through the centre and he will take control of games. Also, to all those armchair critics who say Kagawa and Mata cannot play together, they should watch this game. First goal was a typical Mata free kick, his trademark.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE QUARTER-FINAL SECOND LEG
Venue: Allianz ArenaDate: Wednesday, 9 April Kick-off: 19:45 BST

Manager Pep Guardiola admits Bayern Munich could not deal with an early Champions League exit ahead of Wednesday's quarter-final second leg against Manchester United in Germany.

The defending champions, who also won the German league and cup double last season, drew the first leg 1-1.

Play mediaChampions League: David Moyes promises strong Man Utd display against Bayern Munich
Bastian Schweinsteiger and Javi Martinez are suspended for the tie, while Xherdan Shaqiri is injured.

Guardiola said: "If we are not in the final this club cannot deal with that."

He added: "If we are not in the Champions League semi-finals it would be a huge mistake for the new manager.

"They won the treble last season and I have got to be in that situation. If I don't, then it's not so good."

Former Barcelona boss Guardiola took charge of Bayern in the summer, replacing treble-winning Jupp Heynckes.

Fixture history
•Manchester United have played Bayern Munich 10 times in the Champions League, winning twice, drawing five times and losing on three occasions.
•Their only win, apart from their famous 1999 final victory, came at Old Trafford in April 2010 when Nani (pictured) and Darron Gibson scored in a 3-2 triumph. However, Bayern won the tie on away goals after a 2-1 win in Germany
He has already guided his side to the defence of the Bundesliga title, although their 53-match unbeaten streak in the league came to an end on Saturday when they lost to Augsburg.

Guardiola does have a number of selection problems though, notably the suspension of Germany midfielder Schweinsteiger and defender Javi Martinez after they were cautioned in the first leg.

Bayern are also missing Swiss winger Shaqiri after he picked up a thigh injury in the defeat by Augsburg.

He joins the injured Thiago Alcantara, Diego Contento, Tom Starke, Lukas Raeder and Holger Badstuber on the sidelines.

"We're all concentrating very hard in training. It's like a final," defender Jerome Boateng told Bayern's website: "We shouldn't aim for a goalless draw, and we don't want to either.

"Wayne Rooney is the key man for United. He always makes himself available, he goes looking for the ball, he takes the free-kicks and corners, and he's always good for a goal."

Rooney is set to feature for United despite struggling with a toe injury.

Defender Rafael (thigh) and midfielder Marouane Fellaini, who complained of feeling dizzy during the 4-0 Premier League win at Newcastle on Saturday, did not feature in United's final training session.

Midfielder Juan Mata is cup-tied while striker Robin van Persie (knee) is unavailable.

Nothing much to look forward to in this season liao. :(

Just focus on rebuilding the team.
Bring in some fresh blood during the summer and get rid of the deadwood.
Without European football next season, they can concentrate on winning the league much like how Liverpool have done this season - but they need the right players in place.

Agree on the rebuilding.
Man Utd may make europa league next season, and they should take advantage of this tournament to try out the best combination and try to win it.
For sure, currently quite far behind top european teams, including a few english teams.

Manchester United meet with Louis van Gaal as uncertainty over David Moyes' future increases

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/louis-van-gaal-manchester-united-3402770#ixzz2yichkZJt

van Gaal only succeeds when his team is strong.........he's not those that can rescue a sinking ship........

Man Utd should get Tony Pulis to make sure they don't get relegated next season...........

then aim for Unai Emery, Vincenzo Montella or Luciano Spalletti.............after these guys start to move Man U up the table......

then try to get Rudi Garcia or Diego Simeone.......

With nothing to show, as season's soon done. Here's some cheap laughs vid on MU's famous chants :p
