A MAN, 38, suspected of setting fire to a flat and killing his two young children, later fell from a high floor and died in hospital. The incident, believed to be murder-cum-suicide, took place at Block 543 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10 on Saturday night. Police received information at about 9.50pm that a four room flat on the sixth floor was on fire. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted too. When they arrived at the scene, a body of a man was found lying at the foot of the block, badly injured. He was believed to have run up to the 12th floor and leapt off. He was rushed to hospital where he died later. When officers went up to the burnt flat, they found the bodies of a boy, five and a girl, three, who were said to be the man's children. Neighbours said they often heard quarrels and sounds of breaking glass from the flat.

A MAN fell 12 storeys to his death on Saturday night as a fire raged in the flat in which his two young children lay dead in their bedroom. Neighbours in Ang Mo Kio Avenue10 heard two explosions at about 9.50pm and saw thick, black smoke billowing out of the sixth floor unit in Block543. As some of them scrambled out of their flats and gathered on the ground floor below, they looked up and saw Mr Ng Chee Kiang, 39, falling from the parapet on the 12th floor. Firefighters broke into the blazing flat and found the siblings lying face-up, side by side, on a bed in their bedroom. Neither had a pulse, nor were they breathing. It is not clear how Xavier Ng Wei Yi, five, and Cheryl Ng Shi Hui, three, died, but their bodies were not burnt and the fire was largely restricted to the living room. Early investigations show that the fire appears to have started on the living room sofa. The children's bedroom door was shut but not locked.

HOURS before he fell to his death from his block of flats while his children lay dead inside their home, Mr Ng Chee Kiang was seen walking to a shop to buy 4D lottery tickets.

The 56-year-old housewife, who wanted to be known only as Madam Tang, was going to the same shop to buy tickets for her husband.
She said: 'He asked me in Cantonese: 'Auntie, are you going to buy 4D?' He was very cheerful and looked normal.'

But by evening, his demeanour had taken a drastic turn.
At around 9pm, the 39-year-old lay dying at the foot of Block 543.

A report from the Insolvency and Public Trustee's Office showed that Mr Ng Chee Kiang's financial problems arose through a combination of overspending, gambling and speculating in the stock market. -- PHOTO: WANBAO
</td></tr> </tbody></table>
THE man suspected of killing his two children before falling to his death on Saturday had been declared a bankrupt in 2003. A report from the Insolvency and Public Trustee's Office showed that Mr Ng Chee Kiang's financial problems arose through a combination of overspending, gambling and speculating in the stock market. While he had been working for Japanese food specialist PTC-Nakajima Suisan for over a decade - he earned about $5,000 a month there as a manager - his salary was not able to support his lifestyle as he reportedly raked up debts of more than $200,000. Friends and neighbours also said that he and his wife, Madam Ong Lay Choo, 28, had been having marital problems for over a year, with talk of a looming divorce and custody battle for their children. But it is still unclear how his financial woes and a strained relationship with his wife culminated in his and his children's deaths on Saturday. His flat on the sixth floor of Block 543, Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10 was set on fire 10 minutes before he fell from the 12th floor.

WAKE UP Guys

This is NOT the 1st Time and Certainly Not Going to be the LAST…
Recall that there is a LRT engineer who kill his own son and kill himself, there is another who poison him his children and kill himself too, I think in Tampines. And I think there is more that I can't recall.

So What When Wrong?

wow 5000 sin dollars per months also not enough to support wife and 2 children in singapore.

i guess it is his idea of making his wife life a misery, by killing the children.

that what happen when marriage break apart.

Singapore is getting from bad to worse.

Now even one person is "too many" and can be arrested fro protesting or just seen to "promote a cause" or worse...oppose the government.

What the hell is going on in Singapore?

When the caSINos open up next year there will be lots of broken homes and murder sucides bec. there is not much way for Singapore to escape and now the casinos serve as a convenient conduit for them to espace from reality for a little while. However it will cost them their bank account, car, house and eventually family.

It has proven that the gambling addiction of the population increases with the promixity of the casinos. And it is a fact that Chinese gambles the most and among the Chinese, Singapore Chinese top the list. It is because they are the most suppressed and has the least number of ways to release or escape.

Couple to that, the element of FEAR (fear of the government, the authority, the management, the army officers etc) and their

low self-esteem would convince them that gambling in the high class air-conditioned casinos, which are now approved by the righteous PAP government (never-can-do-wrong-type) looks relatively less evil and convenient. In other words, they find freedom and even "safety" in gambling.

it would not take long...the most 6 months...many Singaporean families will be destroyed by this government's about-turn policy in casino. What's worse is that they are here to stay and after visiting the casinos in Les Vegas, LKY even hinted SINgapore could have "MORE THAN TWO"...just like the current population slogan.

The WORST is yet to come....very soon.
