A COOK who attacked a cashier on her head with a chopper at a food court was jailed for 18 months on Thursday. Lee Chan Sun, 62, a former Institute of Mental Health patient, admitted hurting Ms Zheng Li Qin, 29, at NTUC Food Fair at Block 303 Choa Chu Kang Avenue on May 5. Both are Malaysians. A Community Court heard that Ms Zheng was washing a food tray in the kitchen when Lee suddenly came and hit the right side of her head. A kitchen assistant quickly grabbed Lee while his girlfriend removed the weapon and ran out. The victim, who was bleeding profusely, fled and sought help. She suffered an 8cm-long cut on the right scalp and a skull fracture. The court was not told why Lee had attacked Ms Zheng. Lee whose sentence was backdated to June 22 could have been jailed for up to five years and/or fined.
