After getting a 13-year-old girl pregnant, Tang Ming Lie, 24, got her to eat herbs to induce a miscarriage.
When that did not work, he encouraged her to have sex with other men to save him from prosecution but she refused.
Their sexual relationship was uncovered when she went for a medical examination at KK Women's and Children's Hospital on June 24 and was found to be pregnant. KKH informed the police as she was underage.
The girl, whose identity cannot be revealed as she is a minor, underwent an abortion at the hospital on June 29.
Tang, a safety officer, was yesterday jailed for three years for having sex with a minor.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Michael Quilindo told the court that Tang got to know the girl, a secondary school student, in January through social network website Facebook.
When he asked her to be his girlfriend, she agreed.
On Feb 6, he accompanied her to Yishun Polyclinic as she was feeling unwell.
After having lunch, she took her medicine.
She then felt dizzy and asked to go home but he brought her to Northpoint Shopping Centre and had sex with her at a staircase landing.
A month later, she told him she had missed her period.
He bought two pregnancy test kits and then had unprotected sex with her at a staircase landing of a block in Yishun.
When the test kits confirmed her pregnancy, he gave her the herbs and said he would arrange for her to have an abortion in Malaysia as he would be in trouble if it was done here.
