Man fined S$1,500 over brawl on MRT
SINGAPORE: A glass contractor who was captured in a video fighting with another man on an SMRT train has been fined S$1,500.
40-year-old Teeng Kok Yong was convicted of one count of affray with 50-year-old Ng Cheng Kiat, an odd-job worker.
The brawl took place on 11 January this year at about 11.40pm, while the train was travelling between Khatib and Yio Chu Kang MRT stations.
Court documents stated that the incident took place because Ng thought Teeng had made an offensive gesture at his girlfriend while they were in the train.
Ng confronted Teeng and a fight broke out.
Ng grabbed Teeng's body and punched him in the face.
Teeng, on the other hand, kicked Ng twice in the leg.
In February, Ng was fined S$2,500 for his role in the brawl.
The maximum punishment for affray is one year in jail and a S$5,000 fine. - CNA/xq
