SINGAPORE : A 53-year-old Singaporean man who offered a S$10,000 bribe to a police officer on Thursday was arrested instead.
The man had stopped his car a few metres away from a police road block at Kg Bahru Road and walked away from the vehicle.
The officers manning the road block became suspicious and did a check on him.
He was believed to be under the influence of alcohol. But the man could not provide a proper breath sample or a valid driving licence.
When Senior Staff Sergeant Chan Cheong Tak and his team told the man he would arrested, the man offered to give one of the officers S$10,000 in return for letting him go.
He was arrested for attempted bribery and has been referred to the Corrupt Practices Investigations Bureau.
