Man arrested for sending multiple false emergency messages

SINGAPORE - Police have arrested a 44-year-old man believed to be responsible for sending numerous false messages to emergency telephone numbers.
From September 2012 to January 2013, police received a total of 16 calls from public phones made by an unknown man relating to various law and order matters. Police investigations subsequently established that the messages were false.
Although the suspect remained elusive and could not be found initially, police arrested the man on January 11 at Bukit Merah View.
The suspect will be charged in Court on January 12 for sending false messages. If convicted, he may be fined up to $10,000 or be jailed for up to 3 years, or both.
