Man arrested for molesting woman on bus

Police have arrested a 41-year-old man for outrage of modesty on board a public bus.

On July 9, 2013 at about 9.30am, the 19-year-old female victim was travelling on the bus when the suspect molested her.

The victim reported the matter to the bus captain and the police were notified. Officers from Bedok Police Division immediately responded to the incident and arrested the suspect along Bedok South Ave 1.

Investigations against the suspect are on-going. If convicted, he may face a jail term of up to two years with a fine and/or caning.

Commander of Bedok Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police (DAC) Alvin Moh commended his officers for the swift response.

He would like to advise women to be alert of the surroundings, especially in crowded public transport. If they are molested, they should immediately call the police at '999' or seek the assistance of the bus driver or nearby passengers.

DAC Alvin Moh also warned that the police will not hesitate to press for deterrence sentences against such offenders who prey on women travelling on our public transport.
