Malaysia Situation

Most buy into msia when ringgit was 3 to the dollar. Today it is approaching 4. You already loss 25%.

Yes, it has been sliding continually and never showed any convincing sign of bouncing back up.

With respect to property investment, some say Good. Cos you are paying less and less for your property. But I don't view it that way, which I think is an incomplete picture.

If RM gets weaker but in the past showed signs of being able to pick up again, then maybe it makes sense to invest in Malaysia now. But if RM is constantly declining, which is the fact, that also means whatever investment you do, eg properties or others in Malaysia, they lose their value.

I agree. To put it simply, anyone looking to invest in Malaysia, be it in equities or properties the question is "What's the rush?". With commodities and in particular oil prices falling, a weakening ringgit, coupled with the current political situation, I don't for see any form of a 'V-shaped' recovery anytime soon. In short, I don't think we have seen any signs of a bottoming yet. Foreign investors have sold off MYR 11.7 billion worth of shares from this year (http://www.straitstimes.com/asia/se-asia/foreign-investors-ditching-malaysian-stocks-fast) and I don't think anyone is in a hurry to get back in. With an unknown risk of a currency exposure (ie the MYR) on potential investments, it is best to thread with care and not allow the perception of '' so cheap now cos of weaker MYR" to be the only reason to invest. :)

It's quite dangerous if Najib steps down. The next person taking over might be even worse.
Current DPM seems to be quite rascist.
It might tip Malaysia into a path of no return.

Racist against which race? Indians?
He was the one who vouched for gambler Paul Phua when the Chinese fellow got nabbed by the FBI earlier this year.

Najib has been friendly with Singapore. He may be corrupted but other politicians could be more so and more dangerous too :)

Water level in Linggiu Reservoir drops to record low: Masagos

The water level in Johor's Linggiu Reservoir has dropped to a historic low and Singapore's water supply could be affected if the dry weather continues, Minister for the Environment and Water Resources Masagos Zulkifli said in a Facebook post last night.

Due to low rainfall, the water level in Linggiu Reservoir has dropped from 55 per cent in August to 43 per cent now, said Mr Masagos, who was at the reservoir yesterday morning. The Linggiu Reservoir regulates the flow of Johor River, from which Singapore and Johor draw water for treatment.

Mr Masagos noted that although Singapore can still draw 250 mgd - millions of gallons per day - from the Johor River "on most days", the low rainfall has affected both Singapore and Johor's water supply.

"Water rationing exercises are already ongoing in many parts of Johor. If the dry weather continues, it will eventually also affect us," he added.

He hopes that the annual northeast monsoon will bring more rain over the Linggiu Reservoir catchment area. "I have asked PUB to give me another update on the water situation in December, when the monsoon sets in."

Singapore's strategy of diversifying its water supply "has served us well", said Mr Masagos.

The PUB has been running desalination and Newater plants at high capacity to keep local reservoir stocks healthy. But if the water stock in Linggiu Reservoir does not recover, Singapore may have to do more to conserve water, such as restricting water use for non-critical activities such as washing cars, water fountains and watering plants, he said.

The Minister also urged all Singaporeans to do their part to conserve water.

Currently, there is no better alternative to Najib with regards to working relation with Singapore. Even the DAP has thorny and hatred issues with Singapore, not to mention even worse with Mahathir's supporters.

Record RM500 mil allocation for development in Johor budget

19 NOVEMBER 2015 @ 8:58 PM

BY AHMAD FAIRUZ OTHMAN AND RIZALMAN HAMMIM NUSAJAYA:

The Johor government will spend more than RM500 million on development next year, which is the highest amount ever allocated for this purpose in the state budget history.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, who tabled the state budget themed "Inclusive, Sustainable and for the Wellbeing of Johor" today, said the allocation for development was increased by almost 50 per cent this time around as compared to last year's budget for the same purpose.

"The estimated development expenditure next year is expected to reach RM541 million, which is an increase of 47.76 per cent from the RM366.20 million from this year.

This amount is the highest in the history of Johor's budget," said Khaled in the state assembly here.

Johor's development expenditure for next year comprised RM155 million for physical, social and projects of public importance under the Menteri Besar's Office, RM213 million for economic programmes, RM95 million for the development of infrastructure and amenities, RM45 million for Islamic religious development and RM33 million for drainage and irrigation projects.

Khaled today tabled a surplus state budget for the fifth year in a row, with a projected revenue of RM1.43 billion against estimated expenditure of RM1.42 billion for next year. Khaled said the RM1.56 million surplus budget came amidst an upward trend of state revenue.

"The state's revenue collection as of Nov 17 this year reached RM1.35 billion or 108 per cent of its initial estimate.

For next year, the state's revenue is estimated to increase by 15.04 per cent to RM1.43 billion," Khaled told the state legislative assembly in a budget themed "Inclusive, Sustainable and for the Wellbeing of Johor".

He said Johor's Gross Domestic Product was expected to reach 5.5 per cent next year, as it was buoyed by an increase in foreign and domestic investment.

"Johor recorded the highest amount of investment at national-level with RM30 billion as of September this year, which exceeded several other states in Malaysia," he said.

Hopefully these monies will be put to good use.. To improve the infrastructure of the state and to improve the municipal services that the residents needs.

It's quite long overdue.
Am glad that the new Mentri Besar is relatively young and energetic enough to get things moving.
