据了解，这台手术由福建联通、北京301医院、福建医科大学孟超肝胆医院三方联合开展，手术两地相距约50公里。手术的成功实施，标志着全球首例在5G环境下进行的远程外科手术测试取得圆满成功，为今后5G远程外科手术的临床应用创造了条件。

远程手术对无线通信的延时、带宽、可靠性和安全性有极高的要求，核心是要保障信号实时互联互通。“5G技术大带宽、低延时、大联接的优势，与手术机器人相结合，可以实现信号实时互联互通，打破时间和空间的限制，给远程手术提供了可能。”福建医科大学孟超肝胆医院院长刘景丰说，此次手术的成功，说明了5G技术在远程医疗上是完全可行的。他表示，在不远的将来，5G技术将实现临床运用，还可能实现远程查房、远程B超等，让更多的优质医疗资源能迅速普及到偏远地区，让患者不出远门也能享受省级、国家级，甚至国际级专家的诊疗。
