Ravi having issues with his mental health has been known for years. His friends have intervened on numerous occasions. The incidenst at the mosque and temples on different occasions are not the only event. Blasting music at the highest level, home in a mess, refusing to come out, Police called. He has never been charged because of his known medical history. He has gone haywire in the midst of court proceedings and even when he has clients in the office. I have come across rambling emails to opposition acquaintences where he has made many allegations against them when he in this state. His biggest problem is skipping his medication. Its a common issue with such cases.
Both Violet and Dr Fones are in professions where their practising certificates has to be renewed yearly and it can be revoked if they are aware of a condition and fail raise or report it. People like Dr Fones have a lucrative practice and does not need a dime from Ravi or anyone else. They have nothing to gain but a lot to lose if they did not raise it. Why do you think Violet who has been with Ravi thru thick and thin is doing this. The examination might have taken 10 mins but the fact that it was Violet that notified him carries alot of weight as well as the past medical records.
The Law Society is also in a bind. They took the fastest way out when the Doctor notified them which he is required to do so. If a Pilot is examined by a psychiatrist and found to be wanting and refuses to enter into a volunteer program or tatment, the Airline will be notified real quick. The ball then passes to the Airline.
In a weird way, Violet the lawyer, Fones the Doctor and Wong from the Law Society have discharged their duties and can longer be held responsible. The judge in chambers made the decision based on his observation. Anyway I suspect that if the decision was going against Ravi, he might exercise caution and adjourn the matter.
As an example Francis Seow was barred in the past for a period for allowing his partner to do something illegal and he failed to bring it to the attention of the regulatory body.
What however is not common knowledge is the fact that people have manipulated this poor chap for their own purposes. When Ravi had his first court outburst, both the Judiciary and the Law Society worked together and asked the late SC Palakrishnan to mentor him. Because Pala was looking after him, the trouble makers kept their distance. When Pala passed away, an opposition identity began using him (not anyone associated with SDP). Now that person's relative is involved instigating things.
The Govt also has its share of responsibility when it comes to Ravi. Anyone else in a similar situation would have been disbarred by now. I think they know that it can only help their cause as during the last GE. Now that he has a profile as a Human Right Campaigner with links to the UN, they are reluctant to move.
I have always considered Andrew Loh, Richard Wan and Ravi Philomen as politically naive.
