LTA chief Chew Men Leong resigns

SINGAPORE: Land Transport Authority (LTA) chief executive Chew Men Leong on Friday (Aug 5) announced his resignation after less than two years at the helm. He added that his last working day at LTA would be Nov 11.
In an email to LTA staff on Friday, Mr Chew told them he had tendered his resignation from the Administrative Service as well as his current appointment as chief executive of LTA. He wrote: "I will be making a change of career over to the private sector in the coming months after 30 years of fulfilling public service."
Mr Chew thanked his staff for "the extraordinary efforts (they) put in to serve commuters better".
He added that his successor has been nominated and that a formal announcement will be made in due course. "I hope you can give him the same kind of support that I have enjoyed over these past two years."
Mr Chew took over from former LTA chief Chew Hock Yong in Oct 2014. Prior to his LTA appointment, Mr Chew served three years as chief of water agency PUB as well as 25 years in the Singapore Armed Forces, including as Chief of Navy from Aug 2007 to Mar 2011. Mr Chew has a Master of Science (Management) from Stanford University and First Class Honours in Engineering from the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine.

SINGAPORE – Land Transport Authority (LTA) chief executive Chew Men Leong has resigned, just halfway into his four-year stint at the agency.
Staff at the LTA said that Mr Chew informed them of his decision this afternoon (Aug 5). His resignation comes as the authorities are continuing the expansion of the rail network, rolling out a new bus contracting model for the sector, and amid recent controversy such as the 26 MRT trains found to have hairline cracks, and the debate over the environmental impact of the Cross Island Line’s proposed alignment.
Mr Chew, 48, was appointed in October 2014, and was to stay for four years. He was previously chief executive at national water agency PUB.
