The Singapore Democratic Alliance (SDA) intends to contest only one constituency in this general election.

Speaking to Mothership, SDA Chairman Desmond Lim confirmed that the coalition will only stand in Pasir Ris-Punggol Group Representative Constituency (GRC).

Lim, who is also the Secretary-General of the component Singapore Justice Party (SJP), said:

"The SDA has been caring for Pasir Ris Punggol GRC’s residents for over 13 years now. We will continue to focus on tending to the needs of Pasir Ris Punggol GRC’s residents."

The SDA was registered in June 2001.

Back then, it comprised the following parties:

SJP
Singapore People's Party (SPP, led by Chiam See Tong)
National Solidarity Party (NSP)
Singapore National Front (SNF)
Singapore Malay National Organisation (PKMS)
However, today it only includes the SJP and the PKMS.

SDA's track record in Pasir Ris
The SDA stood in the 2001 general election, although it did not stand in Pasir Ris-Punggol.

It contested the GRC in the 2006 election, garnering 31.3 per cent of the vote.

In 2011, the SDA returned to Pasir Ris-Punggol, garnering 35.21 per cent of the vote, its best performance in the GRC so far.

However in 2015, it only managed 27.11 per cent of the vote.

This guy sure has staying power and the stamina and perhaps deep pockets too! He deserves at least a pat on the back for being so entertaining!
