With yet another death recently of a NSmen, its high time the PAP should build a monument to all these people who gave their lives in service of their country. I know the service is not voluntary, unless they are SAF signon, but nevertheless, they should be remembered and honoured for their ultimate sacrifice. How they die is not important.
Lets face it, when the old fuck Lee Con You dies after a long and happy life of luxury, the PAP will build a monument to him to rival Napoleon, Chiang Kai Shek, Lincoln, etc. Well, he compensated himself excessively. But NSmen, earning a few hundred dollars a week, and enduring deprivations, physical hardship, and wasting 2 years of their lives are dying. The SAF with its multi billion dollar budget can certainly find $1 million to build a nice monument in a public place. No need to put honour guard around it all year, nor even an eternal flame. Something simple will do.
Oppo MPs, and NMPs should be bringing this up. Parents like Lt Chan's should start an association of other parents whose sons were killed/wounded in NS or Reservists to account for better safety and responsibility, and compensation from the SAF. Just my 2 cents.
