This is full evidence of a politician cashing in on public sentiment to score "good character" points simply by taking the side of the pitied which is a natural issue to everyday life of the people. If this politician truly is concerned with the welfare of the subject person, she should fight for lower rental for the food stall.
That's part of politics though. Be seen to look good.

Just why this is Top of the News or even considered worthy of being published is puzzling.
But then coming from the Straits Times, nothing is too cheap or unworthy of being used as propaganda for the PAP.
And so Jesslyn Tan posted an insensitive and contemptuous comment about Mr Tan. This ignited a furore as S'poreans rallied behind Mr Tan and denounced Jesslyn who has since apologized.
The chapter should have been closed then. Everyone makes mistakes after all, let alone a young lady like Jesslyn Tan.
Yet two days later, Indranee visited Mr Tan and posted her overly long status update on her Facebook and this issue is reignited all over again with
Indranee thinks it's important since Mr Tan is her constituent, fair enough.
But why should this be a Top News? Why should it even be news?
Will Indranee Rajah go to the defense of every constituent who suffers distress over a mockery?
And by the way, remember how Indranee Rajah rushed to Anton Casey's defense against those who lambasted him:
"What we should avoid happening on the Internet is the cyber-equivalent of the old-fashioned lynch mob. feel like they also want to pick up and throw a stone, because everybody else is throwing a stone, and the groundswell of emotions gets bigger, nastier, and even more negative."
