SINGAPORE - A 25-year-old man has been sentenced to eight weeks' jail for paying an underage Vietnamese hostess for sex.

Justin Guo Zhijia admitted to having sex with the girl in July last year, when she was 16 years old.

They had met at V4 Karaoke Pub, where she was working.

The Vietnamese hostess followed Guo home and agreed to have sex with him for S$100.

In mitigation, defence lawyer Sunil Sudheesan said Guo met the girl at a pub, where individuals above 18 years old are allowed in.

This had led Guo to think that the girl was of age and that his conduct was lawful.

The girl also told Guo that she was 20 years old when he asked about her age.

During sentencing today, the district judge said a custodial sentence should be the norm.

He gave Guo an eight-week jail term, after taking into account his plea of guilt and the circumstances under which he committed the offence. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
