KUALA LUMPUR — Former Malaysian prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has told police that his life is in danger, and wants to be put under witness protection in the ongoing probe into the scandal-plagued state fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
Mr Najib lodged a report on Friday (May 18) at the Sentul police headquarters. In the police report seen by Malay Mail, Mr Najib said that there was a clear threat on his life and his family members, and made a formal request to be placed under the witness protection.
He further claimed in the report that he had learnt through his sources that the threats were not only from within the country, but also from overseas. The threats allegedly came from people directly and indirectly linked to 1MDB funds internationally.
Mr Najib is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act (AMLATFA) 2001.
