Mr Lee Kuan Yew is indeed the person who transformed Singapore from a small fishing village to the first world country that it is now. I am appalled to see the lack of appreciation in this forum for this man.

Hope a day will not come when we will have "Spitoons" placed all over Singapore.

The spitoons were a regular feature in pictures of Mao-tse-tung and Deng Ziao-ping.

Is LKY really smart? As a lawyer he lost a number of cases and as far as I know he lost many important cases. His daughter in-law's company Temasick Holdings was convicted of crimes in a number of countries and yet she still remains as head of Temasick Holdings. What kind of a person is LKY? His government imprisoned hundreds of political prisoners including those that were known close to him but showed different political goals.

That Singapore can pay homage to LKY is no different to Marcos and Suharto supporters paying homage to their respective vile and undemocratic bastards that managed to get and hold on to power for decades.

Is LKY smart? Of course he is smart but he is not a genius that can solve the world's problems. He cannot even solve Singapore's problems as we know it today. So what good is LKY for when he cannot solve the country's problems?
