SINGAPORE, Nov 30 - Lee Kuan Yew, Singapore's influential former prime minister, is in hospital following surgery but is expected to be discharged on Monday, the government said on Sunday.

Lee, 85, the father of current Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and "minister-mentor" in his son's cabinet, had minor surgery on Saturday to implant a cardiac pacemaker, a statement from the prime minister's office said.

That followed the detection of an atrial flutter when the senior Lee was hospitalised in September.

"He is recovering from the surgery and is expected to be discharged from the hospital on Monday," the government said.

It added Lee will be fit enough to travel to Hong Kong from Monday to Wednesday where he will have a dialogue session with former U.S. President Bill Clinton at the Clinton Global Initiative Asia Meeting.

Lee Kuan Yew, who remains a power in Singapore politics, has been widely credited for policies that helped make Singapore one of Asia's wealthiest economies following independence in 1965.

The more visits he makes to the hospital at his advanced age, at least to me, is not a good sign. Medical science is now very good, but even people, once they have aged, will go.

So the more he visits the hospital, the more he's gonna face his maker soon. I'm not worried. Its time Singapore move forward from his era. Once he's gone, we can start planning for the future ahead. LKY has become an absolute drag on the country he once served and perhaps, even loved.

Dun worry, the doctors and hospital staff that implanted the pacemaker have taxis on 24 hour standby to take them to the airport and siam away when he dies. U think they want to stick around and get interogated by ISD and sued by Lee and Lee?
