Agree with this part, we are the face of SG so to speak here, behaving and following the host countries rules, etc is definitely something which to look out for.
There are always some bad apples but not everyone is like that.

Singaporeans are already a forlorn lot by their own government and own country, let not the people forsake them as well.

I LIKE the last statement , this is what i am trying to said .... every nationality u can see them eventually unity together even in foreign countries ... but singaporeans are not !maybe thats what we have seen n learned from our wonderful Pxx ....
but I am really grateful to Wuqi and some who never give up on helping singaporeans even though ppl doubt abt his intentions!

Thinking deeply is good at times but I don't wish to misconstrue a vague statement so that is why it is better to seek clarification

For the sake of openness, I am only a lowly ranked 3rd SGT in an armored division that has to go outfield for exercises and training. No comfort of sitting in command centers or back at HQ  Now on the verge of downgrading just when I am approaching my MR due to accumulated injuries stemming back from NSF days...

maybe instead of saying training , i should use "Mindset" on u ....

Its good to watch our behaviour but i will continue to have more empathy towards the plight of our people as the proverbial pot is slowly heating up. Few noticed though and most continue to praise albeit now with slightly muted tones.

A very learned bro recently commented that sooner or later, more will become like the boat people.
He said "I choose to leave Saigon by a Pan Am plane rather than in a leaky crowded boat towards the end of its days"

Oh, your learned bro left Saigon in April 1975 before the fall of Saigon?

One of my friends was one of the last S'poreans out of Saigon. He witnessed the daily depreciation of the Dong vs USD, almost could not get out of the country if not for his persistent begging of the airport counter staff using the little French that he knew. On his flight out of Saigon to BKK in late April 1975, the plane was full of women & children...

Hmm, I guess I must still be a bit foggy in the head but your revised statement will now be:
"not sure what type of NS mindset u been thru . but sounds like u got the same types from the pappies ....."

Now I don't understand why am I being linked to the MIW? I don't work in the public sector nor any GLC.

I think S'poreans are a fortunate lot especially those born up to the 80s. Which other country would you have chosen to be born in? My friend who has literally seen the world - he had 3 wives including 1 in Canada, and was one of the last S'poreans out of Saigon in 1975, used to say, most S'poreans don't appreciate what our country has. Yes, undeniable on the competition with foreigners for jobs, the questionable policies (housing, immigration, transport planning, casino...). But we are still fortunate to be born here. SG is still a good base to expand out to SEA and AP region. Power of the Sing dollar (SGD) should not be under-estimated.

The biggest issue faced by many S'poreans is that they are too comfortable and don't have the hunger, hence foreigners who are more opportunistic tend to take our jobs and opportunities, and even invested and profited from our markets (property, S-chips).

Sorry to join the digress from this forum...

Talking about nostalgia and old stuff...

Gotten hang onto my SAF 11B tightly, it will be worth something in future

Just bought a collection of 1967-1985 old Singapore coins (1ct to $1) -- this will be very rare in future.

Yes, its already worth something right now, at least to people like me. If i ever have eateries, etc here, it will be
honoured too.

Peace to all, i think Sis Crystal was just saying we should unite rather than divide once we cross the border.
Just like pawns of a chess set, we need to work together rather than against each other.

Definitely no offence meant by anyone.

I think we may have the same friend! People were still laughing at him when he asked them to leave even back then. I think those who laughed at him didn't laugh quite so hard when they were herded into leaky old boats in the end, using all that they have just to get a seat.

On the whole I agree with you. The 80s generation were fortunate in having a good education, stable environment to grow up in plus it was during this period that contract manufacturing was a growth pillar so this brought wealth to the citizens then.

I also agree that Singaporeans don't have the hunger compared to the Taiwanese, HK, Chinese but are they to blame? I see it more that the society created has resulted in conformism, herd mentality and frankly, lack of fiduciary care towards the citizens. But this is the mandate that the people of Singapore has given to the ruling party so we reap what we sow. Can only hope for the best and of course relying on yourself but not to the exclusion of moral principles and values

Just like those FTrash in Singapore, Singaporeans curse and swear at them everyday! worse when the news broke out Ferrari dash red light and left 3 dead , our land became someone else land. sg getting bad to worse. so small and cramp. unlike MY big and plentiful of land.
That is the reason we must move other place and MY is the best place one can think of.... distance, exchange rates, almost same culture and races, everything looks the same but only have to cross customs and immigrations. i am very happy to live in MY!!! I thank God for that!!!!

Definitely we should stick together and no offense taken (this is a forum afterall where dissenting views/opinions are dime a dozen). Just that having vague, one-liners and jumping to conclusions does not promote healthy discussion

Grass is always greener on other side  Cost of living in JB is actually higher than in SG. It's just when we take currency conversion into place that it becomes attractive. But conversely this occurs in SG too!

The Ferrari incident is a media fracas, especially the comments from the deceased driver's kin. It's a sad incident but we have to be careful not to be demagogued.

But no worries , i am not affected at all .
If in the first place u have not started that post , nothing would have happened.
Who had jumped into conclusions at first ?

Agree totally.... not like WP, which giving their team a very bad name all together. Pride, selfishness, self centred, jealousy and etc will lead to division!

i do appreciate some FT who helped us in building homes , doing health cares jobs .... but some jobs seriously needs to consider to let singaporeans to be consider first ....
u know my coy has employed a few engineers and drafters jobs last few weeks but all are foreigners . Dun tell me singaporeans cant do a drafter job or think the pay is low ? my coy pay quite well . min salary is 3.5k at least for any admin job. Seriously i think 3.5k is not bad already . But i heard coz NS will disrupt the progress of the project so they prefer to employ foreigners....

The smiley face is to state there is nothing personal about what has happened. Definitely not 'trying to get back' towards you.

The jumping to conclusion remark is in reference to saying I have links with the SG government. This is why I seek clarification as I have no idea why you latched on to this line of thinking.
