My experience tells me never underestimate women. I notice in international sports, it is the Chinese women who are far more successful than their male counterparts. I think that says something about women's competitive spirit and will power.

Hear hear, never underestimate women for every single man is born out of one (so far)

actually i didnt share with much ppl on my move to JB . Even my own family also very skeptical , they are saying I am moving backwards instead of moving advance by living in JB .
Well , its my OWN life . I know what its good for me.
Now my 3rd sis is complaining that child care fees is increasing , if she going to send her second son to Kinderland , she still have to pay abt $700 after subsidised from govt. So 2 sons in child care , going to pay $1400 at least .
No need to use words to convince them . When they see u having a better life in JB , they will come to u .

Its always difficult, with mounting costs, its really a no brainer to come here but then what do people like you or i know?
Don't let them get you down, as i learned through the hard way, you can't help everyone.

I just know of several converts who are coming out here this weekend, i told them to consider to rent first but they are
keen to buy.

You have my fullest support, bro. Both hands and legs up in the air.

Having 3 rows will be better depending on the height of the fence. Also, proper anchoring of the fence plus sealing up the gaps below are key to securing the compound. Installing IR beam sensor on each end with cameras overwatching. That will be ideal and is already done for houses such as Laguna where they even had concertina wire. Anti cut fence with concertina wire. Impressive.

Hi bro DOA,

The wires can be cut but needs heavier equipment than most would be robbers can equip. The best wires are still a deterrent, what is required are IR sensors and cameras on top of passive defences.

Dear all, the roof on top has no diving walls as far as i know for most properties so its important to secure the trap door to the roof. I have mentioned using simple locks and simple latches as well as Daiso RM 5 magnetic alarms. If you like, you can put up cheap IR alarms (Tesco)
or even set up tripwires with XXXXXXXx and XXXXXXXXXXXxx.

Lets just say that there are many ways to harden your house. Having empty soda cans up there will be helpful when someone tries to be funny.
Risk is there mainly for terrace house in ungated areas but its a risk that every house will be subjected. No reason to panic though as its much easier
for the would be thief or robber to climb through the gates, then to go through the roof.

Those robbers/thieves (who are still alive) know that roofs can be a very dangerous place to go to as some roofs are well secured.

Bro arsenal, no need for the heavy gear, just household items can help to secure. The people of old Singapore, used broken bottle glass to put on top of their walls. Decorative yet strong deterrent to would be climbers. Empty soda cans, etc can be your first layer of defence as they act as noise makers should intruders.

There are also caltrops that one can buy or make oneself to scatter in susceptible areas should one need to be away for a long time (but then please remember where they are when you come back!!)

Never underestimate the value of cheap alarms. Yes cheap alarms though can be defeated easily, they can be augmented with more of them as each will add to the noise and length of time taken. I remember back in the past, someone liked to open my cupboards.

I scattered 4-5 of those toy mini grenades with a red explosive cap (only makes noise) on it and put them carefully inside the drawers and cupboard. Imagine their surprise when they opened it. Of course i was alerted to it as well and came strolling in. The person tried to close it and activated the last remaining one.

For those who are moving to NI and was asking about whether you would hear the prayers from the Surau early in the morning, my answer is yes. Last week I was staying over at my relative terrace in the Gateway for 2 nights. I usually wake up at 5am plus to prepare for work. It was a quiet morning as usual but as I was entering the toilet to bathe, I heard the prayers from a distance. The distance from the Surau to HH terrace is about 1-2km. Its not loud but you can hear it for sure. However if you are staying in HH and inside your own room with doors and windows closed and aircon or fans switched on, you cannot hear it for sure. Same for the coastal highway noise. I can hear it much clearly now esp the revving motorbikes at 6am plus in the morning when the highway is like 400-600m away. But maybe because its 6am plus in the morning and HH is still not that alive.

We are in the centre core of Gateway so it wasn't audible as morning chirping of birds and sounds from insects do their bit to help cover.
For us, we cannot hear the coastal highway unless we really try or go nearer to some houses at the edge.

Very good suggestion. If u see a house with durian shells being laid all over the places like a lawn, that will be my house. Feel free to try foot massage - all FOC

That in itself is even better but preferably they need to be in grass area and mixed in with some metal caltrops

Do u expect woman to climb ladders or fix electrical items? Some jobs still better to let man handle. ....
R u working in lingerie industry? How come so high percentage of woman bosses.

My wife will beg to differ, even in her advanced pregnancy term, she climbed the ladder to change bulbs, etc without my knowledge.
Kept reminding her its dangerous but sometimes she still do it so just have to be one step ahead and change it before she sees them.

I heard from HH there are pipes bursting issues due to the poor divert.. So using pump could
Be more straight forward..

Yes, best to keep it simple, straightforward. The water tank will last a day or two so sometimes (very rare) even if the water is off, we don't notice it.

I like the idea of caltrops where it concerns entry to the house via the roof but I don't think it's feasible for the garden because my kids will be running around all over the place. Where can we get these caltrops?

Huh? you mean there is no dividing wall at the roof to divide your house from the neighbours? Hmmm, how strange, lol.

Yes, no dividing wall up there for ease of access for the guys working on water tanks, etc as sometimes conduits must go across and cross over a little. To bros who are fearful of birds flying in, putting in some wire mesh will be useful with little bells tied to some of the mesh.

Definitely caltrops and kids do not mix. Generally caltrops and feet do not mix well. Easy to get and easy to do. In fact, (for the light version against animals), Daiso already has a plastic version which does it similarly.

Almost guarantee residents will have to pay but hopefully everybody will see value in it and willing to chip in for the safety of the taman.

I will strongly advise to do it and to do a proper 3 layer one with gaps below filled and posts firmly secured. The barbed wire should also be set up properly as i have seen some barbed wire laying that was so sloppy that somone with a stick can already push it up and aside. Plus trees or any man made signs and billboards should be taken down or removed to avoid people climbing up these and circumventing the wires by jumping over them. Identify the soft spots and harden them. Make it so unappealing that the bad guys has to go some place else.

Like I Ching's view of universe, everything is formed by Ying Yang; Ying has Yang and vice versa.

Agree, there is always a balance to everything.
I like the Mohist ideals too as well and follow
some of it, actually quite a bit.

The residence at Holland, Henry Park area today in Straits Time requested for CCTV installed in their area today saying there is a growth of break-ins and thefts..

Actually to stop someone from entering your house, one might really have to seal the house up like a cage.. there are many ways for one to enter the house, from the man hole, from the roof or from your neighbour 2nd floor balcony..or just jump over your front gate... But is that really necessary?

Thats bad, this shouldn't happen in Singapore. Definitely there are softer spots of access than from the roof. Just put a lock to the trapdoor and a couple of magnetic alarms and that should be ok. When they jump or climb over, they must still contend with your locked door or grille but in the roof area, many people typically don't secure. Just as people normally do not look up, its good to just have that blindspot taken care of.

Bro, there is concertina wire at my place. U can be my super hero too

Btw, just curious, can wire cutter cut through these concertina easily?

Your place definitely has it, you don't need me there as it has IR sensors and cameras as well.
You will need the large bolt cutters. If properly laid, this will do their jobs reasonably well and is
a good deterrent.
