Hi greddy, i hear you, at least you have tried, i just hope that it becomes better. Some friends who don't stay here are renting out their houses here in the meantime until they are ready to come in.

True.. What you have today doesn't mean you can still have it in 10 years times.. Live life as it is, but don't wait until full retirement.. Blackberry was once something every corporate executives want but now it is as good as dead.. Apple is now very popular but I am getting tired of using it.. Singapore has been on a good run for 40 years.. Today there is a national divide between the elites and the norms, and the elites are bringing in foreigners for their votes against the citizens.. How long can it continue? After building 2 casinos, what is next? Some teachers become molesters and making smart money as tutors than spending time coaching the poor students.. Principals went to buy sex from underaged girls.. Civil servants getting caught in cheating govt money.. Ministers all while justifying to get more bonus for themselves and yet so difficult to raise the social funds for the umemployable for 270 to 300.. The govt in our country and others will not take care of you.. Be prepared. Do be prepared.

Yes, agree nothing lasts for ever. Many however still have the idea that things in SG will continue unchanged for the next 50 years or even longer.
The whole society is on the change, people are changing too, no longer unquestioning robots. We need to take away the blinkers from our eyes and see things for ourselves, not what others want us to see. Only then we can take the necessary next steps. When you fail to plan, you plan to fail.

Why leave your fate in the hands of others when its painfully obvious that they didn't take care of the earlier cohort who may have contributed even more than you.

I rather get off than be on the conveyor belt.

Very true bro. Even workplace culture like loyalty is worthless nowadays. Job hoppers everywHere. Employers retrench the long-serving employees like no one biz. Such is the change and reality.

Kids nowadays should be taught on the entrepreneurship skills more than anything. I wish I was brought up with more of this skill set, instead of being trapped in this rat race. Nonetheless, everyone of us will find ways to sustain and survive.

Bro greddy, for a start, u need to get your wife to start reading this forum to have a chance to move and change her. Gambateh!!

Its tough and i truly feel sad for the next generation as its only going to get progressively harder and harder as time goes by. Its going to take much more than just education for one to be ahead of his peers. Being just booksmart is no longer enough.

Geez bro ... This is a horrifying message because what u have pointed out is so real. I'm preparing, wait for me to get armed first..

It is but its true nonetheless, need to start preparing for the next step as no one will take care of us when we are old and "worthless" to society.
Do not hope for the next generation to take care of one as they will have enough on their hands the way things are going.

Running around so busily like headless flies, we tend to forget to look at the next step.

Penang mulls raising minimum price of landed properties to RM2mil for foreigners

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Government wants to raise the minimum price for foreign purchases of landed properties in the state from the current RM500,000 to RM1mil in the mainland and RM2mil on the island respectively to protect local interest.

However, the existing limit of RM500,000 for permanent residents would be retained, said Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.

He said the proposal was the first step to protect the interests of Malaysians. “We hope to implement the proposal by June or latest by July.

“Therefore, we would like to get feedback from non-governmental organisations, property developers, foreigners and the public,” he told reporters here Thursday

Absolutely, if pocket can take it, why not, Penang is a good place to stay as well but at 2m, a bit out of reach for folks. I think those keen should take action soon before they really implement at 2m.

So it seemed popularist govt might not always be no good.. At least every now and then they will do something for the people to win votes..
Imagine if our govt do the same thing to foreign property buyers.. Foreigners cannot buy HDBs but can only buy private 2M and above, I guess the HDB prices will become affordable and the private properties prices will soar.. Also rental will be good..

Not sure if this is a really good move for Penang. It kills off the foreigner buying market almost immediately. Let's not forget that Thais and Europeans are buyers there too.

And if the Federal government does not do the same for the rest of the country, it may raise the attraction to these places outside Penang.

My 2 cents really.

In Penang, most and not exception to the rule:

Terraces are RM 1M and above
Semi-Ds are RM 2M and above
Bungalows are RM 4M and above

Whew!

High-end properties in Nusajaya have already hit the above prices too even though Nusajaya is still in its infant stage of development(still in mummy's tummy and due for delivery in end of this year :))

This decay is only going to get worse as we run along. Casino no. 3 and no. 4 will come our way before we realise it. Our children will think of carving careers within the gambling industry; maybe it is good money and not a bad thing but just not sure if this is the things that we want in the long run.

Maybe properties will continue to be sky-high and no worries about any bubbles bursting. Borrowers may be able to repay the million dollar mortgages after 30 years but retirement funds will be locked into the real estate and let's hope that not everyone decides to head for the exits to liquidate their holdings when everyone is planning to do that.

And now that the COEs are reaching the stratosphere, it is no wonder that many are screwing their brains out. Let's see what happens when COE is more than $100,000. It won't be long.

Well said bro. And if I may quote Buffet, he said: “Price is what you pay. Value is what you get.”
We should be happy owning a JB properties if things are the way it is whether the prices go up or down. :)

You kidding! Semi-Ds above RM 2M in Nusajaya? Not yet, right? RM 1.5M perhaps?
You are making me excited!

Not kidding FT,

Leisure Farm's Bayou Creek currently sells;
Semi-Ds at prices between RM1.721 mil to RM2.573 mil.
Bungalows at prices between RM2.774 mil to RM4.754 mil.

East Ledang's corner terraces already hit above RM1 mil some time back.

Yes.. when we live overseas, we must also learn to blend in, respect locals and their cultures.. talk softly and enjoy what we don't have right here..
For ourselves, we got to lookout and help each other..

Just to touch on this matter. I feel the recent post regarding "kulit-fication and not qualification" is totally uncalled for and insensitive and has no place in this forum which has been a beacon of light for many. Although I am not Malay I have many hardworking Malay friends and have been in Sg long enough to say that "kulit-fication" is rampant in Singapore too. Perhaps just the reverse scenario. Like some posters have rightully said, pls respect the laws of the land. If not, there is always 'fair' Singapore to return to if things are unbearable in Jb.

ps: Moderators should clamp on such posts to prevent this forum from being tainted.

Definitely more expensive the further up north one goes like KL, etc. It kind of reflect the premium over the southern part.

Maybe current generations are different, when i look at my sisters, one older, the other much younger and see how they behave. I really have no comments. I am sure there are still rare gems out there. Maybe going extinct. :)

Haha is it really that bad nowadays? I just feel it is unfair that SG women are being said to be so pampered but I have a friend who tolerated bullying boss and hang on to her job for the sake of family & children, very few women are so lucky like your wife to have provider husbands, most are worried of losing their jobs and income.

Yes, from an older posting almost a year ago, it was already 1.57m
http://www.propertyguru.com.sg/singapore-overseas-properties/996/leisure-farm-resort-bayou-creek

For EL we saw terraces selling for 1.25m a short while back.

I think this is the biggest problem with most of the parents. They feel safer believing that everything is given, as long as they do what are required to secure a place at school etc ... Helping out eca, be a "lollipop woman" (sorry, cant help lol) at the zebra lines outside schools etc etc. it's really hard to break this mindset, I can understand, given that my parents did the same for me. I also think its a genuine concern that priority will be given to sgporean with spore educational background vs sgporean with foreign educational background, unless the foreign education is from the top school that's recognized worldwide ...

With so many FTs with dubious degrees working in SG, now I think it is no point to study in SG..might as well relax and go study at a Pinoy university and then come here to work..what is the difference?
