Not so long ago, qualification for CL was a do or die mission. With each passing week, the target slipped steadily beyond their reach. Now, no CL no problemo............sheesh!!
LOL ...sigh... what to do ? the human instinct for survival is to accept & adapt to new realities as it unfolds ...
I mean, what would you suggest if u r in his shoes:-
a. rant against everything & everyone - angry & in denial
b. swear to fight to the death - and be accused of refusing to face facts
c. moan & groan - and be accused of being defeatist & whining
d. count blessings, take stock & look forward again - and be accused of being easily contented & lacking ambition.
In a sense, what he said was very true, prior to 2002, Liverpool not playing in Champions League was the norm throughout the 90s ... yeah, unbelievable, come to think of it, 2001/2002 season was Liverpool's first in Champions League history...
Having said that, the priority issue is not even the manager or his spending plans, it is how effective Barclays Capital & the new non-exec Chairman can be in securing a higher class of owners who can take over from the poor-yet-greedy American double goondus...
When that happens, a positive virtuous cycle will start & everything will start to take care of itself - manager, new blood, fresh stadium plans, LIverpool Greatness Reloaded.
Till then..... yeah, Carra this carra that.... liverpool will always be a brand name with history...
