How independent candidates did in sample counts


This election saw the return of independent candidates contesting in Bukit Batok SMC and Radin Mas SMC.


Mr Samir Salim Neji was up against the PAP's David Ong and SDP's Sadasivam Veriyah in Bukit Batok, while Ms Han Hui Hui was the third candidate in Radin Mas - contested by PAP's Sam Tan and RP's Kumar Appavoo.

Ms Han's sample count was 9 per cent, while Mr Neji's count was 0 per cent - the lowest for any candidate so far.

Candidates need to poll above 12.5 per cent to retain their electiondeposit.

"It's certainly surprising, but it's just sample counts so let's wait for the final scores," PAP's Chua Chu Kang candidate Zaqy Mohamad tells Wong Wei Han.

He adds: "How PAP fares across the board is just as important for me as what we have achieved in Chua Chu Kang. There are a few GRCs where sample results are quite tight. Let's wait for the final results and hopefully we can retain those seats as well."
