Written by Our Correspondent
Minister in Prime Minister’s Office Lim Hwee Hua gave a befuddling reply to a question from Channel NewsAsia on the walkabouts of opposition parties at various constituencies after a forum on women’s leadership role in the New World yesterday.
“I suppose they are preparing for the General Election. And in a way trying to work the ground so that they can at the General Election truly say that they’ve been working the ground unlike the rest of us who have been working the ground.” she was quoted as saying.
The Singapore opposition has been making regular walkabouts since the last general election except that the mainstream media seldom reports on it to give the impression that they have been”idle” in between the elections.
On the hand, there were complaints from some Singaporeans in cyberspace that they had not seen their PAP MPs for a long time which was not highlighted by the media.
“I think it reflects the expectations of the electorate. People do expect you to know the ground and to have done things for the people and to be able to demonstrate that you’re committed to being there and not just for the General Election itself,” Ms Lim added.
In case Ms Lim is not aware, the expectations of the electorate are getting higher, especially the younger generation of voters who want to see more accountability and transparency in the way the government operates and not just “shaking hands” with the MPs.
During a parliamentary session last month, Ms Lim said it is “not realistic” to avoid losses on every investment made by the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation or GIC.
Such an irresponsible comment coming from a Minister without Portfolio who earns millions of dollars a year from Singapore taxpayers is absolutely unacceptable.
The PAP’s misguided policies have affected many ordinary Singaporeans and they will not forget it at the next general election where it is expected to lose more seats including a GRC.

Sue her for slander

Have some balls opposition!

Lim Hwee Hua,
Don't talk cock. My sleeping MP has not been walking my estate for a decade 'cos he believes with the gRC system he and his new career gunning your PAP turks can sail into Parliament.
Come election time we still don't see any of them campaigning. Your PAP sent just a pick up truck with a driver and blaring loudspeakers urging residents to vote for PAP. I should have reported the PAP to the police for disturbng the peace.

Of course my family and al relatives voted for the Opposition.
If Kenneth and CST comes to my constituency I will vote them too. In fact I will vote anything as long as it is not PAP. Get it?

I tend to believe what Lim Hwee Hua said about PAP MPs/ministers working whole year round thinking and the peasants........whole year round, these MIWs are thinking how to suck the peasants dry and bring in FTs to replace the peasants !!

PAP...please do not work so hard !

That is becasue PAP will never give them a chance. Not forgetting the press is use by the PAP.

Lastly who want to carry balls for LEES in the opposition camp

Re: Lim Hwee Hua: Oppo only work at election

Regarding the above statement, What I can say involving my own personal experience is that "it's true PAP work but they work like never work!"

More than 5 years ago, when I seek help from PAP MPs,at least saw them for 5 times regarding the harrassment I received at work in STE. All they did is help me write a few letters here and there. Finally, I got a call from ISD saying they are not checking on me! Wow,believe it or not,do you think if ISD checking on you, will they call and tell you they are not.:oIo:

She almost lost to Silvia Lim in the previous election. Have she done a lot for aljunied people since then? I heard the Town council there is going to increase the charge and people complained her town got no light because her town never did their job. Also after she was elected, her GRC town caught fire and some family members were killed because she never heed their advices. These are just some of the many problems of her "working the gound" not forgetting the foreigner dorm that riled many of her serangoon residents. Typical bitch who ride on Shit Times to credit herself.

Oppositions are like Vampires.
Vampires only appear during night. Oppositions only appear during election time.

which PAP MP said that?

Who're you kidding, Mrs. Lim?

Nobody's expecting every stock in a broad portfolio to return gains. In any portfolio, there're allocations of bigger positions and smaller positions. When the bigger positions start returning big losses, it's time to question investment management decision and performance, especially when the losing positions keep ballooning until the whole portfolio is obviously precariously imbalanced. There's no state or strategic secrets possible with huge investments (and losses) in companies like Citibank or UBS. They have to report transactions and losses publicly worldwide anyway.

As for opposition activities, I can confidently speak for my own constituency. NSP has outreach here about 2 to 3 times per year (with a view to contesting here again since they contested here in the past 2 GEs). WP has outreach here about 2 to 3 times per year too (as part of their nationwide weekly outreach rotation of all areas regardless whether or not there's any intention to contest).

They come with personal and limited resources, unlike incumbent PAP MP with all the resources of the RC and CCC. Yet I see him around only once to twice per year, usually Chinese New Year and Ramadan season. But that's the MP's job. Even LTK and CST do more than that in Hougang and Potong Pasir without support from their regional RCs and CCCs.
