Police reports, complaints against Wellness Village Spa owners

SINGAPORE - There were executives in their late 20s and ladies in the mid-50s. Until this week the group of 25 had never met each other. But on Friday evening, they gathered at the Police Cantonment Complex with a common purpose: To lodge a collective report against the owners of Wellness Village Spa, which closed abruptly this week.
After the news of the closure was first reported in Today, the boyfriend of one customer began gathering names via online forums. He was "disturbed" to receive nearly 300 emails from customers whose spa packages are now useless.
"We just want to increase awareness ... and make sure this doesn't happen again," said the 27-year-old.
Nearly all among the group on Friday had also gone to the Consumers Association of Singapore (Case) to lodge a complaint. Hundreds of others have done so, too.
The customers have been told they could file a claim with the Small Claims Tribunal, but some, like Ms Daisy Ho, are thinking of legal action. The consultant paid $800 for a 20-session package at the spa on Oct 29.
"I thought I had paid by instalments, but I was shocked to hear that the bank had already paid the owners in full," said Ms Ho, 55, who was told she is still liable for the credit-card payment.
Financial Services Consumers Association president Tan Kin Lian said those who want to join any club must "make sure it runs properly" because banks hold customers responsible for any credit loan.
Since the incident surfaced, several police reports were received and complainants were advised on their legal options accordingly, said a police spokesperson.
