The newspapers today outline the very basic facts on why cashlessness is not taking off - costs.
No one is surprised. The banks here charge up to 10 times more than their Chinese counter parts and the likes of Alipay.
Card companies charge up to 3% for cost of sales.
The speech on SMART NATION double confirms that his underlings give only the good news...he merrily spins it...and the press and everyone else having a field day on how out of touch are the civil servants and the govenment are.
And the gall to mention "if Estonia can do it, why can't we". The Estonian Embassy should lodge a complaint on the inference. Such arrogance.
BTW, about 15 years ago, friends who did business in Estonia were already telling us about them paying for parking via their mobile phones!
