I understand what you are saying. Indeed there is no denying that most would like to be in the "white collar jobs", everyone hasThank you for your reply. Appreciate it.
I waa not trying to imply that you cannot afford maid rather many Singaporeans can afford to hire maids.
You are right that the narrative from the Government may be wrong. Different people say different things though.
My own experience with my relatives is they really cannot see themselves doing any menial work even if it pays better. Case in point my own siblings came to Canada and refused to entertain the idea of menial or labor work.
On the other hand another Singaporean couple who came to Canada the husband signed up and trained to be a carpenter.
I think Singapore should reduce this very liberal foreign worker policy. It is not good for the Singapore identity. Particularly Sg is a small country so if you have influx of so many foreigners the locals will feel their presence for sure. It is not like there is big spaces for various races to stay apart etc.
But so far it atill seems to me Singaporeans still support the policy overall.
a preference . Maybe the one that signed up as a carpenter is someone who has an interest in carpentry ?
If I could , I might like to try living on a Chinese Farm someday....
During the time I was in the workforce, we didn't have these problems with foreign workers. We had only foreign workers only in particular position, usually the head of department that needs to have interaction with the head office unlike now where you can
have as high as 60-70 pct of that departments staffed with foreign workers. (Because of the CECA agreements , local people are not competing on fair grounds, in areas of CPF , army liabilities being away from office for a while and not forgeting most of the time, you cant defer them thus bring inconvenient to the company.
It was not per se that labour policy is wrong...rather that an Agreement was signed that caused an uncontrolled influx from a certain national( many of them came with fake certificates etc etc ).
Unfortunately The G have "trained" the citizen to think that they are the best the country had, that is why "it appears that majority of the people support the G policy .
Do not forget the experienced of the USA election where Social Media was used heavily to try to portray a certain Narrative. Here in Singapore it is no difference, we used to used the term " internet brigades or IBs . Now the fancy term is Communication Teams
or Pr Teams. If I am not wrong each Ministers and or Ministries have them. You can clearly see them on their Facebook pages..
getting a packed of eunuchs to "confront you' if you post something that is not the direction of the predetermined narratives.
