singapore is a small country. it has limited road area to be allocated for traffic. hence public transport is one of the more vital necessity to peasants. gov should have full control of public transport. it was a grave mistake that buses and mrt were privatised and then public listed.

this has directly allowed it to be grouped under a "form of business" instead of a "staple" of a nation and that put the nation under the mercy of the public listed shareholders who - as for every business - is to acquire the best profit returns with the minimum expenditure.

THE GOV HAS FAILED THE NATION in this aspect! our public transport companies are now a monopolised cash cow that milks the nation incessantly. the recent financial company's reports showing obscene profits should have proven this point.

they are already making very good decent profits. what then is the rationale of the fare hikes? do we get better services like prompt arrival especially from the bus we are waiting for? is the bus taking us in the shortest and most efficient route to our destination?

in mrt trains now, it would be a blessing to be able to get a seat. it's now almost congested the entire day and not just the peak periods alone. it's more frequently packed like sardines now.

as for the waiting time, it's usually a drag. travelling in buses is even more drag! usually it's a redundant longer distance the bus is travelling instead of the shortest and most efficient way.

worst still, bus services that are travelling almost similar routes with mrt could be abruptly re-routed or even totally scrapped leaving commuters lesser choices.

if the public transport were really that efficient, we really do not see the need for more transfer, ie, bus to mrt to feeder bus before arriving certain destination. if that's how public listed transport monopolised business see as more profits to their coffer, the primary essence to serve the commuters is seriously warped!

don't forget. before one can travel, he must buy an EZ card and top it up with quite a substantial amount. the rebate from sbs n mrt are really quite miserly and pathetic.

the new fare hike overall does not benefit the majority but only a small minority whose travels involved multiple transfers each trip. if there's too many multiple transfer trips involved, how efficient our public transport could still brag about itself?

being public listed private business now simply means peasants are condemned to be exploited continuously to maintain certain "profits" to feed all the directors who are most likely put there by the gov themselves.
