The 34-year-old woman who died following a knife attack at a Kovan hardware shop reportedly came to Singapore from Vietnam to work, and was married with three young children.

The employee of the Quan Long Nippon Paint hardware store at Block 210 Hougang Street 21 died of her injuries in hospital after allegedly being stabbed several times by a man at the store on Dec. 10.

The 42-year-old man has been arrested for murder.

Deceased from Vietnam, had three children

The deceased was identified as Dao Thi Hong, 34, a Vietnamese national with three young children, Lianhe Zaobao and The Straits Times reported.

Zaobao reported that two of Dao's friends were seen burning incense for her on Dec. 11 behind the store, which was shuttered at the time.

One friend, Sally, said Dao was from Hanoi and moved to Singapore for work five years ago.

Sally said Dao was married with three young children.

Her eldest is a teenage daughter, while her youngest is a seven-year-old girl.

Another friend, Rina, told Zaobao that Dao was a kind person, and many residents in the area knew her and would greet her warmly.

A Vietnamese fruit seller working nearby, who gave his name as Ah Zai, told ST that Dao has two daughters and a son, and came to Singapore to provide for her family and her parents.

“We would sometimes chat over meals in the area. She was a good person and was nice to us,” Ah Zai said.

Sally said Dao's family has made plans to fly to Singapore on Dec. 11 to find out more about the matter and bring her home, Zaobao reported.

Her husband was intending to travel to Singapore as well, but could not secure a passport in time.

Sally and Ah Zai said they did not know the suspect, ST reported.

Deceased has financial disputes with assailant

Gao Wen murder suspect and deceased allegedly had work dealings and had a dispute over medical expenses

The deceased is Ah Hong.
The 42-year-old suspect in the Gaowen hardware store murder case was said to have had work dealings with the deceased, and the two had a dispute over medical expenses.
According to Channel 8 News, the deceased was a 34-year-old Vietnamese woman named Dao Thi Hong (transliteration: Ah Hong), who had been working at Quan Long Hardware Store for more than a year.

32-year-old Nguyen Trong Vinh (A Yong) said in an interview with Channel 8 News today (11th) that he was the deceased's roommate and lived in the same unit with two other roommates and Ah Hong. He also went to the scene of the incident today to pay tribute to the deceased.

The deceased was suspected of injuring the suspect's heel and was asked to pay for medical expenses

A Yong said he did not know the 42-year-old Chinese suspect, but he learned from friends who were familiar with Ah Hong that there was a financial dispute between the two.
According to Ayong, the suspect was delivering goods for a hardware store, but he was not sure whether he was an employee of the hardware store. He heard that a month ago, Ah Hong accidentally hit the suspect's foot with a cart, and was subsequently asked by the suspect to pay 100,000 yuan in compensation.

Roommate: The deceased was a friendly person

A Yong said that he learned from his colleague who sent Ah Hong to the hospital that Ah Hong said she was "very cold" before her death and wanted to change clothes and eat.
He said that before the death, the deceased had a phone call with her brother in Vietnam, who said on the phone: "Don't you know me?" Not long after, Ah Hong passed away.

Ah Yong also said that the Vietnamese community in Singapore could not believe that Ah Hong was killed in the attack, and her family was also waiting for news in Vietnam. Yesterday, 20 Vietnamese who knew Ah Hong helped to buy offerings and set up the altar.
A Yong revealed that Ah Hong was a friendly person. When he worked as a vegetable cutter in the food court, he would often bring food for Ah Hong, and the two took care of each other
