The worker was in a frenzy and seemed determined to pick a fight with his colleagues at the casket company.
He then whipped out a surgical knife and stabbed a colleague in the right arm.
The incident happened on Thursday at the Singapore Funeral Services at Block 4, Toa Payoh Industrial Park.
The police confirmed that they received a call at 5.15pm about fight between two men. One of them was given outpatient treatment for a cut on his arm.
Chinese evening newspaper Shin Min Daily News reported that a man, Anthony, 43, appeared to be agitated before the incident.
He was convinced that some colleagues were bad-mouthing him. He approached one of them and accused him of criticising him, then stalked into the company's office when the colleague denied it.
A female worker sensed that he was on the prowl for the next target and ran away, leaving a 40-year-old Chinese national named Ah Kai in the office, Shin Min reported.
Anthony then took out a surgical knife and tried to stab Ah Kai, who used his right hand to block the blow, at the cost of a cut on his right arm.
An embalmer, Mr Yee Sze, 33, who works at a nearby casket company, told Shin Min that he had heard a disturbance. By the time he went to investigate, the fight hadended.
