I think the most important value destroyed is that of human conscience. During the cultural revolution, they got the nation youths to form military little red guard to purge the so called bad elements.

Betrayal of family and friends and reporting them to authorities were encouraged. These youths during 1966 to 76 grew up and if people were able to betray family and friends for something - be it communism or now money as ideology - what can't they do to customers, suppliers, neighbours, aquaintances, and finally strangers?
