King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama 9) is 82 today.
He succeeded to the throne on 9 June 1946, when his brother, the young King Ananda Mahidol (Rama 8) died in 1946 under somewhat mysterious circumstances, the official explanation being that the latter shot himself by accident while cleaning a gun.
