i can still remember during GE last year KJ said the reason of him attempting to contest in pioneer smc is because the smc is mostly english speaking middle class people but as a voter in pioneer smc i can say it is nonsense

The move by the Workers' Party and its secretary general Low Thia Khiang to expel its elected Member of Parliament, who refused to address allegations of indiscretions in his private life, demonstrated the party's firm stand that no one individual is bigger than the party.

Mr Low did not mince his words when he described Mr Yaw's action as irresponsible and creating a crisis of trust.

While the party's decision and Mr Low's tone - which clearly demonstrated his deep disappointment with his former protege - might win the party more support, I urge the WP to go one step further, and not field a candidate in the by-election if the Prime Minister decides to call one.

With seven representatives in Parliament today, the WP should offer the opportunity to other opposition parties. We have seen the performances of the party's MPs in Parliament over the past four months, and with all due respect, it would be ideal for the nation and our lawmaking process if we are able to hear the alternative views and suggestions of other opposition MPs in the House.

When asked for his response, Reform Party Secretary-General Kenneth Jeyaretnam said: "In the light of WP's protracted silence on this matter, individually and collectively, we find this decision somewhat surprising.

"By sacking Yaw, the WP leadership has denied the people of Hougang and the wider Singapore public, the accountability and transparency they crave," he said.

"So far, we have had a rumour followed by an official no comment followed by silence, followed by a sacking for silence, and finally a statement about that silence.

"What we are left with is still silence. We have seen in the past that when the ruling party sacked members, it led to a hush-up and less accountability, not more.

If Yaw chose not to speak there is nothing anyone can do about it and he has the right to remain quiet as the rumors surround only one woman he has ex-marital affair with. Any sensible leader will not fire their subordinate based on simple allegation and his employee private affairs, this can never happen in private sector, if not for more women that surfaced in the later news to tar WP image. The meaning of "taking too long" is very subjective as internal investigations were being carry out. We often hear people from PAP camp said "No comments while investigation were carried out, let the committee do the review and the reports will be released at later date....". So why apply different standard for WP?

"My personal hope for the people of Hougang is that Mr Low (Thia Khiang) will persuade Eric Tan to rejoin the party. He can then put up a candidate of long-term good standing with the party and the people thereby minimising disruption."

Eric Tan's attitude of walking out of his own party showed he has no respect for his leader and CEC decision. In private sector, you don't walk out of your boss because he disagree with you and than you spoke loudly in public that you were treated unfairly. The other thing about him was, he was too presumption just because he served too long in his party. He should have tell the news that the decision of NCMP lies in the WP CEC but instead he insisted that he should be the one elected for the role. Because he made a mockery of himself to the news, he felt humiliated when CEC did not agree with him. His PR skill sucks, and nobody can tell what possible damage he can do to WP if he re-joined them. Impulsive people are dangerous in politics because they are likely to be less co-operative and tend to be more self-centered.

We are talking about so many old people in politics,Eric, KJ, TJS, CST...etc but these people can't really think out of the box and flow with the situation that favour Singaporeans. They chose a different path and got the outcome they deserved but tyring to drag down other opposition parties. It is really their choice, not the people.

I think he lost it. Pioneer, Sengkang West and Punggol East have the same kind of make up and I can say that they were carved out because the young yuppies there have their new flats and are happy - but the PAP was a bit wrong that they would necessarily support the ruling party. They won't stay long as SMCs - just to meet the minimum number of 12. You are not talking about Joo Chiat or Mountbatten here.
