Considering the PKR campaign plank was to arrest them all down the line starting with Jibkor this is really not unexpected.

Even UMNO MPs are smart enough to comprehend Not Arrested > Arrested.

Dr Mahathir’s surprises as PM4, PM7 and PM8

KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s abrupt announcement, where he resigned as prime minister, marks the second time the same person has resigned from the prime ministership.
Just as he did in 2003, stepping down as the fourth prime minister, Monday’s announcement was unexpected, almost as unexpected as his return to power in 2018 as Malaysia’s seventh prime minister.
On Monday (Feb 24) evening, he was appointed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong as interim prime minister until the formation of a new government.
Dr Mahathir had returned to power in 2018 after leading the Pakatan Harapan charge to remove what he called a kleptocratic government. The general election victory of May 2018 ended six decades of government by the Umno-led Barisan Nasional.
His second stint as premier of the Pakatan government lasted just 22 months - his first had lasted 22 years.
Dr Mahathir’s last major policy announcement was the National Automotive Policy (NAP) 2020.
A known automotive enthusiast, Dr Mahathir had introduced the first national car, Proton, in 1982 with the vision of turning Malaysia into a regional manufacturing powerhouse. He recently launched the third national car project.
Dr Mahathir had also launched the Shared Prosperity Vision 2030, a commitment to make Malaysia a nation that achieves sustainable growth, and equitable wealth distribution across income groups, ethnicities, regions and supply chains.
His 22-month-long administration marked several firsts in empowerment of women: the appointment of a female deputy prime minister, several important posts for women in the Cabinet, and a female Chief Justice for the first time.
During his brief second tenure, Dr Mahathir received multiple international awards including Japan’s highest award, the "Grand Cordon of the Order of the Paulownia Flowers" conferred by Emperor Akihito of Japan.
Dr Mahathir also commanded the attention of international audiences at several fora, including condemning Myanmar’s treatment of the Rohingya community at the 73rd United Nations General Assembly.
He was also known to have been outspoken on the hostile treatment of Palestinians by Israel.
During his first tenure as prime minister, succeeding Tun Hussein Onn in 1981, Dr Mahathir had pushed for the country’s modernisation and further development.
Among his achievements during this period were the construction of the Petronas Twin Towers and the Kuala Lumpur City Centre in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, which he launched in 1992, the development of the federal administrative capital of Putrajaya, the North-South Expressway, the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), as well as the Multimedia Super Corridor, Malaysia’s national ICT (information and communications technology) initiative.
Dr Mahathir was also credited with putting Malaysia on the international sporting map when the country played host to Formula One races, as well as the Le Tour de Langkawi cycling tournament.
Kedah-born Dr Mahathir began his working life as a medical officer at Alor Setar General Hospital. In 1957, he opened the MAHA Clinic in Alor Setar, the first private clinic owned by a Malay at the time.

We are not traitors, say Azmin Ali and lawmakers after their resignation from PKR

KUALA LUMPUR: Mr Azmin Ali and 10 other members of parliament who quit Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) said on Monday (Feb 24) night that they are not traitors who betrayed the ruling coalition.
In a statement, the faction said their actions were merely a “proactive step” to put an end to what they said was a conspiracy to oust Dr Mahathir Mohamad as the prime minister in the middle of his term.
“We believe that forcing the prime minister to set a handover date is a malicious attempt to make the prime minister a ‘lame duck PM'," the group said.
The group added: "We firmly deny allegations of those who label us as traitors."
"Those who sought to oust the prime minister mid-term are the real traitors because they prioritise power transition over the implementation of government policies which are aimed at restoring the economy and improving the people's wellbeing."
“Our efforts prove that the said group is aware of the mistake they have committed, hence their statements supporting YAB Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to continue his role as prime minister until end of his term,” the statement read.
The exodus of the 11 MPs earlier on Monday, including four ministers and a deputy parliament speaker, came a day after PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim noted that there were efforts to break up Pakatan Harapan (PH) to form a new government.
Mr Anwar had said that those involved were former friends from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) and a small group from PKR who has betrayed them.
On Monday, Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin said the party has decided to leave PH.

The issue of power transition has been repeatedly brought up since Dr Mahathir-led PH formed the new government after defeating Barisan Nasional in the 14th general election.
PH has reached a consensus for Dr Mahathir to serve as prime minister following the shock victory and for Mr Anwar to take over at a later date.
While Dr Mahathir has reiterated that he would honour his promise, the handover has become an issue of contention with different groups within PH holding different opinions on when it should happen.
As PH’s two-year anniversary in federal power neared, PKR politicians aligned to Mr Anwar grew more vocal in asking the coalition to fix a transition date.

The greed of politics.
Same in Malaysia, same in Singapore, same everywhere.
It manifests in different forms but substantially, power is security.
Singapore no way like them.
The politician here mostly soldiers capabilities and follow instruction from Ah Loong.
No one as cunning as Mahathir team.

The Hellhole political game

If you are a politician, choose a combo to form a coalition.

(1) PKR or UMNO or PPBM

(2) DAP or MCA

(3) Parti Sarawak or Warisan

Welcome to Malaysia, where political dishonesty is fine

Another shocker was when Dr Mahahtir told a youth forum last week on the two men in history he admired most.
The first was Prophet Mohamad for some very good reasons that we all know. But the second man and the reasons he cited threw me off guard a little.
It was the 18th century Russian Czar Peter the Great. Dr Mahathir said even though he did not agree with the way Peter the Great killed and murdered the people, he had managed to change Russia through his leadership skills.

He added that when Peter the Great took over, Russia was poor and the living conditions were bad.
I beg your pardon? I am not sure if he is even aware that he is telling the youths that it’s okay to be cruel and kill innocent people if it means you do it for the betterment of the nation.
This was definitely not what my parents, school and my religion taught me.

K. Parkaran was a deputy editor at The Star and producer at Aljazeera TV. The views expressed here are solely his own.

wow! didn't realize mahathir was a fan of peter the great! he was the only Tzar to be bestowed with the title "The Great" by the people. he successfully modernized a backward Russia and brought it to the level of the modern European nations of the day. this K.Parkaran dude is a pussy.

if indeed the case, i believe more so now in his reform agenda.

KUALA LUMPUR - Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad looks set to replace Malaysia’s ruling pact with a wider coalition that includes opposition parties Umno and Parti Islam SeMalaysia (PAS), but could leave out his Pakatan Harapan (PH) allies who were voted into government at the last general election, political sources say.

It is understood that Tun Dr Mahathir has coralled support of a majority of lawmakers in Parliament after a flurry of party meetings on Sunday (Feb 23) but has yet to receive the nod from Malaysia’s King to engineer his new so-called backdoor government.

Speculation of the imminent collapse of the PH government peaked on Sunday, when local media reported that leaders from Dr Mahathir’s Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) and the country’s two largest Malay-Muslim parties Umno and PAS were granted an audience with the King, to brief him on this latest political development.

Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president Anwar Ibrahim alluded to the possible shake-up, telling reporters there had been an effort to bring down the PH government by PPBM and elements within his PKR party.

His comments came after leaders and MPs from PPBM on Sunday morning met at their headquarters in Petaling Jaya, Selangor for around six hours.

Dr Mahathir, party president Muhyiddin Yassin, as well as youth wing chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, and other party MPs were seen at the building.

About a dozen ministers and MPs aligned to Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, PKR’s deputy president and Economic Affairs Minister, were also said to have held a meeting at a hotel nearby.

The four-party PH coalition comprises multiracial PKR, the Chinese-led Democratic Action Party (DAP), Dr Mahathir’s Malay-based PPBM, and Parti Amanah Negara, a moderate Islamic party.

A party insider told The Straits Times that the plan is for those aligned to Mr Azmin to leave PKR, which has 50 MPs - the largest number of MPs in Parliament. The insider said PPBM, which has 26 MPs, may leave PH.

However, a lawmaker aligned to Mr Anwar, who is meant to take over from Dr Mahathir as prime minister, dismissed the speculation, saying: “I don’t think they have enough numbers.”

A new coalition will need at least 112 MPs - a majority of the 222 seats in Parliament - to form a government.

Speculation is rife that PPBM and Mr Azmin’s team from PKR will make up the numbers by joining forces with the Umno-led opposition coalition Barisan Nasional (BN), and PAS.

The leadership of Umno and PAS - the country’s biggest Malay-Muslim parties - were attending a retreat over the weekend at the hillside resort of Janda Baik, just outside Kuala Lumpur, where the government change was believed to have been discussed.

Umno, which formed a political pact with PAS last year, is said to be holding a supreme council meeting on Sunday.

They have also openly backed Dr Mahathir to stay on, amidst calls from Mr Anwar’s supporters for the 94-year-old premier to make way for his designated successor Mr Anwar.

It is said that the new government, if successfully formed, will comprise 41 MPs from BN, 26 from PPBM, 18 from PAS, nine from PH ally Parti Warisan Sabah, 19 from opposition Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), and 10 from PKR, totalling 123 MPs.

Leaders of this new coalition were granted an audience with Malaysia’s King on Sunday evening to discuss the transition.

Among those said to have attended the meeting with Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin were Mr Azmin, PPBM president Muhyiddin Yassin, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, reported The Star.

Also seen at the palace were Warisan president and Sabah chief minister Shafie Apdal, and PBB president and Sarawak Chief Minister Abang Johari Openg.

A PKR assemblyman aligned to Mr Azmin told the Malay Mail website the new coalition will be named Perikatan Nasional.

Speaking to reporters, Mr Anwar hit out at betrayal from a faction of his PKR party. "Now we are waiting for further information but there were attempts to bring down the Pakatan government involving our former friend Bersatu and a small fraction from PKR who has betrayed us," he said during a religious event held at his Bukit Segambut residence that was attended by supporters.

"They have met with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong this evening but there is no further announcement," he added.

Mr Anwar’s political secretary, Mr Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak, said Mr Anwar is also set for an audience with the King on Monday, although he told the Malay Mail the meeting had been “scheduled a long time ago” and that it was meant to provide normal political updates.

If the plan succeeds, Mr Anwar will not be able to command sufficient support to take over as prime minister. His PKR will be left with 40 MPs, while the other remaining PH parties DAP, with 42 MPs and Amanah, which has 11 MPs, will no longer be part of the government.

The move comes after a PH presidential council meeting on Friday, which agreed that Dr Mahathir would be the one to decide when he steps down as prime minister.

Dr Mahathir has repeatedly said that he will step down after Malaysia hosts the Apec Summit in November.

Prior to the 14th general election in May 2018, PH had agreed that Dr Mahathir would be prime minister for two years before passing on the baton to Mr Anwar.

er... sorry to point out but if tun mad hatter is part of the government then is definitely not m&d only because he is not a m&d.

Stalin inherited a large country. Peter had to create it.
it is arguable, that even though the effort to create a country may have been greater in physical terms, it may be more of a challenge to rise to such a dominant position and command such influence with no prior legitimacy.

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 25 — The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah will interview all MPs one by one to ascertain who commands the majority of the Dewan Rakyat to become the next prime minister
Comptroller of the Royal Family and Household Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said in a special media briefing at Istana Negara today that 90 MPs have already been called to the palace starting 2.30 pm.

The rest of them will be called tomorrow.
“The interview process will be done by the Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong, his majesty himself, and will be accompanied by Chief Secretary Datuk Seri Zuki Mohd Ali,” he told the press.

Ahmad Fadil said the process will be done under Article 43(2) of the Federal Constitution, which handles the formation of the Cabinet.

He said that all the MPs will get two or three minutes of audience with the sovereign and the entire interview process today is expected to conclude by 7pm.
When asked what triggered the need for such interviewing process, the first of its kind in Malaysia, Ahmad Fadil said this is for the Palace to ensure that the process is done in a transparent manner as befitting the country’s constitution and laws as well as to stop wild speculations.
“This is done transparently so that the media does not speculate about what is happening.
“It is not known how long this process will take but we will keep in contact (with the media) from time to time,” he said.
The country is in political turmoil with the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan administration yesterday after Langkawi MP Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad stepped down as prime minister and resigned from his PPBM party post.
Yesterday, the Agong accepted Dr Mahathir’s resignation and then appointed him as interim prime minister.
Following the king’s decision, Dr Mahathir proceeded to dissolve his Cabinet.
Umno secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa confirmed today that his party has formed a coalition with several others and have enough numbers to form a government.
Yesterday, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced that the party was pulling out of Pakatan Harapan (PH), leaving the coalition with 92 out of 222 seats in the Dewan Rakyat and short of the 112 simple majority needed to continue as the government.
PKR also sacked their deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali and vice president Zuraida Kamaruddin over their role in organising a meeting with Umno and PAS MPs on Sunday.
Azmin then proceeded to announce that he and 10 other PKR MPs have exited the party to form a new “independent block” in Parliament.
On the same day, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng lashed out at the rogue MPs, accusing them of undermining democracy to pursue their own political ambitions but voice their support to Dr Mahathir to remain as the prime minister.

Kit Siang: Pakatan must be saved as it is the only political group committed to reforming Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 25 — In a last-ditch effort to keep Pakatan Harapan (PH) afloat, DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang said PH is the only political coalition committed at restoring and reforming the nation into a respectable nation.
The Iskandar Puteri MP conceded that doubt was sowed among the people when two of his DAP colleagues were among 12 acquitted of charges related to alleged involvement with terrorist groups, added with the recent limbo of the local political landscape.

Lim, however, reiterated that PH, despite him not agreeing with some of their decisions is the only outfit capable of steering the country towards progress and therefore worth salvaging.
“I would answer in the positive ― that Pakatan Harapan is worth saving as no other political grouping in Malaysia is committed to restoring Tunku Abdul Rahman’s vision of a Malaysia as ‘a beacon of light in a difficult and distracted world’,” he said in a statement.

“As I told DAP leaders yesterday, so long as DAP leaders remain true, loyal and steadfast to their principles and objectives to make Malaysia a great nation, and do not go against their conscience, they must be prepared to be unpopular and even misunderstood,” he added.

Lim then pointed out that efforts should instead be focused towards foiling attempts to wrestle power away from PH, saying any other alternative would lead to Malaysia being a doomed and failed state.
“The alternative to the ‘Malaysian Dream’ that we are trying to achieve of the country becoming a ‘Tiger Economy’ and a world top-class nation is a Malaysian nightmare of the reversion to a global kleptocracy, a failed and rogue state, and even worse, the advent of a kakistocracy where the worst, the most unscrupulous and the most unprincipled elements of society occupy the high offices of state in the nation,” he said.
Lim added that despite the imperfections of PH, it has managed to set its course towards a reformed ‘New Malaysia’, saying no other political bloc has come forth and made similar commitments to continue such nation-building aspirations.
This comes amid an obvious jostle to claim a majority and receive consent from the Yang DiPertuan Agong to form a new government by political parties and its leaders.
The rush comes following the effective dissolution of PH and its Cabinet after Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad resigned as Prime Minister yesterday.

Stalin inherited a large country. Peter had to create it.

Peter led the great modernization of russia, equivalent would be Paramount leader Deng and his open door policy.

Stalin was more like Mao. Enough said.
