Malaysian actress Queenzy Cheng unexpectedly passes away at 37

MALAYSIA: The sudden passing of actress and singer Queenzy Cheng (莊群施) on Tuesday (28 Nov) sent shockwaves through the Malaysian entertainment industry and online community.
Her official Facebook page, presumably managed by her team, announced the unexpected news of Ms Cheng’s passing at the age of 37.
As a member of the renowned Malaysian girl group M-Girls, the actress captured the hearts of many with her captivating voice, notably through her enchanting Chinese New Year songs that resonated with joy and tradition.
“Her musical legacy will forever echo in our hearts, serving as a comforting reminder of the joy she brought to countless lives, “ the final Facebook post on Ms Cheng’s page expressed.
“As we mourn the loss of a talented artist, let us also celebrate the vibrant spirit and cultural richness she shared through her music and acting.”
Chai Zi, the actor working alongside her, expressed shock over Ms. Cheng’s sudden passing. He explained to the media that he had picked her up to go to the filming location that day.
“We arrived at Damansara around 8 a.m. After having breakfast, we commenced shooting at around 8:30 a.m. She didn’t appear to have any issues at that point.”
After completing the first shoot, Ms Cheng changed her makeup around 10:30 a.m. in preparation for filming the second scene.
“The second scene revolved around the costumes of Malaysia’s major ethnic groups, so she changed into a cheongsam.”
“While she was standing and blow-drying her hair, she suddenly sat down, complaining of feeling dizzy, experiencing a severe headache, and having nausea.”
Two staff members promptly assisted her, ensuring continuous airflow by fanning her.
“There were on-site personnel trained in first aid. Although she was unconscious, she was still breathing. However, her heartbeat was very rapid. Shortly after, her lips and extremities turned purple.”
It was reported that before losing consciousness, Ms Cheng unlocked her phone. Her colleagues urgently contacted her boyfriend to inquire about her medical history. Her boyfriend stated that she had always been healthy, except for her father’s ear imbalance.
An ambulance arrived within 5 minutes, and paramedics immediately initiated emergency procedures, but sadly, she couldn’t be saved.
“From when she mentioned feeling dizzy until she passed away, it was only about 30 to 40 minutes,” said Mr Chai.
Suspected brain hemorrhage claims Queenzy Cheng’s life
Separately, Sin Chew Daily News reported that one of Ms Cheng’s best friends revealed the possibility of Cheng succumbing to a brain haemorrhage, and within less than half an hour, she passed away at 11:50 a.m. on Tuesday.Carrie Tan, Cheng’s friend, facilitated procedures to accompany her for police investigation and later organized the transfer of her body back to her hometown in Kangar, Perlis.
Authorities are reportedly planning to conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Up to this point, friends and fans of Queenzy Cheng are still in disbelief over her sudden passing.
Many have expressed their grief at the loss and offered condolences to Cheng’s family.
The short video channel “Squad Sekawan” also shared a message of condolence on their official Facebook page, informing followers about the passing of their fellow member.
“Her departure is deeply felt by all Squad Sekawan members, and we pray that her soul may rest in peace.”
“Additionally, it is with great sadness that we announce the postponement of new Squad Sekawan episodes for the time being, until a later date to be announced.”
