Pas MP wants govt to 'control' Blackpink, other foreign artistes
New Straits Times - 15h agoKUALA LUMPUR: A Pas member of parliament has urged the federal government to "control" the organising of concerts by foreign artistes like Blackpink, saying they had caused "unease" among Muslims.
Namechecking other artistes such as Westlife, OneRepublic, Mamamoo and Jay Chou; Nurul Amin Hamid (PN-Padang Terap) told the Dewan Rakyat the issue was of concern for the Muslim community.
"The concerts by foreign artistes are increasingly being held here. Can't the government control the organising of such foreign concerts?"
Saying the "flood of fans" at the recent Blackpink concert was "against the values" of a Muslim-majority country like Malaysia, he said it should not have been allowed at all, especially in light of the floods which have hit several states.
This is not the first time Pas has spoken out against the Blackpink concert and that of other foreign acts.
They had previously called for the concert to be cancelled and condemned other performances by foreign artistes they deemed un-Islamic as they encouraged "hedonism".
