IT Support mostly contract and outsource to SMEs and employment agencies here, jump here jump there until pay hit 3.5k, then go take professional IT cert, for example Microsoft one but only take the one in demand based on job listings at LinkedIn, all other job websites for sinkieland don't bother as LinkedIn can check easily if the HR and managers are locals or foreigners, knn private sector so many HR+IT department given to CECA Pinoys Malaysians Tiongs, last time limpei colleagues at NCS and other local SMEs all Pinoys

If poly fresh grad's average pay is below $2900, it is worrying. Be mindful that our civil and uniformed service pays poly fresh grads very well so the actual figure is lower in private sector.

Even Malaysian fresh STPM clerks get $2300-2500 + Levy eg $700 , we are underpaying our poly grads.

For a typical 3Y diploma, u look at the modules, one-third are "life-skills", one-third are "academic", with the remaining one-third as "subject-focused".

Poly programmes are too slack, and a big waste of time. No doubt our poly is better than most or all malaysian universities, MOE intentionally drags time with the students to protect JC's market. Imagine if poly diploma is two years like JC, less will be interested in JC which is purely academic and stressful.

Our poly programmes could be completed within 18 months, without the useless subjects and waste-of-time activities.

In a way, we are wasting resources, wasting student's time to provide jobs for the poly staff. Internship at this stage is not meaningful, no career progression, students might as well spend the time to complete BMT in Army. In Australia, the duration of their TAFE Diploma (similar concept) for university admission with 1-year exemption is only 18-24 months.

For richer local parents, they can send their kids to Australia, UK, Canada, NZ for 6-9months foundation programmes to gain direct entry into universities.

If the guy is earning $2.5k after 20 years of working, we can safely say that he’s not exactly looking for prospects.
