You are quite correct too. Pontius Pilot asked the jews whom they wish to have released, Jesus or a murderer named Barnabas. They chose the latter cos the Jewish high priests saw Jesus as a threat to their standing. Till today the Jews are still waiting for their Messiah. This is what Christians believe from the Bible.

Religion is usually a choice except for Muslims. If you are born into a Muslim family, you would be a Muslim. Those who changed to another religion could be ostracized or even killed. You can see it happening.

No, it is totally wrong to say that the ancient Chinese has no gods or that Idoltry came with Buddhism's spread to China. It is also wrong to assume the worship of idols came about because of Hindu roots and influence.

During the Shang Dynasty, people already believe in animism such as god of rain, god of mountain,cave god etc..There was also already an establishment of Taoism,with the trigrams and myraid of deities(eg child spirit -Nezha, pangu,Doumu)). It is also wrong to say that making gods out of clay,gold or bronze come about only after Buddhism is spread to China. When the First Chinese emperor Qin Shihuang died, idols were moulded out of these materials that include soldiers(tera cotta army),maidens and gods that they believe can protect the emperor's spirit. This happened in 221 ++ BC which was before Buddhism enters China.

However it can be conceded that the spread of Buddhism into China greatly enhanced the cultural achievements of the Chinese in terms of artistic craftsmenship and helps China attains high degree of art form such as mural paintings and cravings(Dunhuang caves, an international icon) and precious craved print block of Buddhist Diamond sutras.This legacy of Buddhism in China and Chinese culture continues till today.

It is however a historical fact that the ancient Chinese never believe nor worship one single God or creator like Abrahamic religious beliefs. ..despite attempts by some people to associate ancient Chinese characters with Biblical connotations and that ancient Chinese people worship a single GOD.
