Jeremy lin the hottest Chinese Nba star right now with a harvard degree

yeah. that's old Chinese ppl's thinking - 华人都是自家人, "nationality" by blood, citizenship secondary.

that Lin doesn't hold dual US/ROC citizenship? everyday their news report so much about him, so boring.

Well think about it. Sg has also attempted to gain glory from ppl that were either born in sg or used to reside in sg. I remember a few famous personalities that they did that in the past. I guess it's just human nature to want to share in the glory.

Now suppose there's a malay nba player that was born in the US do you think malaysia and the local malays would be excited?

There's this double standard thing i have noticed is that if somehow a chinese succeeds especially in fields that a chinese or asian doesn't succeed in like basketball for eg you'll see many chinese giving excuses to put him down but i doubt the same thing would occur if it was a malay instead.

As for the old chinese thinking. I don't think overseas chinese would think that way or perhaps overseas chinese not born in china BUT overseas chinese born in china now residing overseas would consider themselves chinamen. It's different for the ppl of china however. There's no difference between ethnicity and nationality. If you're a chinese you're a zhong guo ren. It's nothing out of the ordinary. It occurs everywhere. A japanese person from japan would consider a japanese american a japanese person too.

i saw tw news that his father was a ROC citizen who was working in silicon valley and migrate the whole family over when he was young.
so taiwan are proud of him in thinking that his roots is from taiwan.

at first he was discriminate, no1 one believe an asian judging his height, skin colour etc can gain glory in NBA.
he was the 13th or 14th players of the team, no chance to play, mostly a water boy, picking up towels for their, give water for the players.
then came earlier NYK was not performing well, so the coach thought nothing to lose and throw in Lin.
who knows he can control and distribute the ball well and revive NYK.

did any interviewer ask him whether his roots is taiwan or he is a chinese?

The fact that he can overcome this kind of discrimination shows that he is pretty successful and not only that does well academically and managed to revive the knicks. Anyone regardless of race would have been praised. Of course him being chinese makes the hype even bigger naturally since no chinese has done that.

Yet we have these chinese dog haters that try ways and means to put him down cos it's hard wired into their brains to kiss the ass of black players in b-ball and the ass of ang mohs in football and hate on other chinese.

i mean "all chinese are blood brothers" is the china ppl's thinking especially the older folks. yes, the overseas chinese don't think this way.

if it's a malay nba player or footballer in epl, the local malays and malaysia would be mad and so proud about this. it's an ethnic pride for them like the taiwanese fascination with lin.

But this malay person in the epl isn't born in sg or mudland but in the US or europe. Why should they feel proud?

correction ps.:o his parent migrated to US before Lin was born.

I hear that his grandparents were born in china and then they migrated to taiwan in which his parents were born and then he is born in the US. This proves that he is eligible to play for china, taiwan and the US obviously. I remember ram was saying you can migrate to china if you are able to write your name in chinese and fill out their emigration form in chinese or if you have a name in chinese on your passport. If you don't you can perhaps somehow add it in i think.

chey just became a pilot and 1 o'level pass?

Other ppl have harvard degree and becoming the first asian american that isn't super tall and revived an nba team. These 2 accomplishments are as differen as night and day.

These PRC are shameless . Who ever make good news and who is Chinese, they want a piece of it. Shameless ...

Kind of like the PAP. Even if you emigrated, they will try to claim some kind of credit if you become famous as an ex-Sporean :D

Not sure if people understood what is going on with Jeremy Lin. The significant issue is not the tremendous support from Chinese world wide. Its his accomplishment which broke records. Frankly what the fuck was he on the bench for 2 years. The Warriors should have their head examined. I have no doubt that he being Chinese and Ivy League played on selectors mind. I have seen this guy. He not only can read the game, he can read his his own team members and the opposing players as well.

Jeremy lin has skills. The problem is ppl stereotyped him. Why? he's asian. I'm not sure if you're aware but in the US they especially love to stereotype ppl. If you're asian and you want to play b-ball. Whether it's on the streets or in college, in school or on a professional lvl ppl are always going to think that you suck. Why? Cos you're asian. Period. That's how they think over there.

Right now lin is breaking that stereotype. Of course chinese ppl are proud to see one of their own play. It's normal. If it was a malay player, malays would be proud of him too. That gives him additional hype but still cannot deny that he's phenenominal regardless of his race. There are many sour grapes out there especially blacks that will hate on anyone even other blacks but hate him cos of his race.
