16-year-old girl nabbed over murder of beautician

JOHOR BARU: The arrest of a 16-year-old girl found hiding inside a Chinese temple, apart from the detention of two other suspects, concludes police investigations into the murder of beautician Amy Liew.

The arrests of all three suspects happened within 12 hours after the crime at Taman Bukit Indah here on Saturday morning.

The first male suspect was detained at about 2pm in Tampoi within three hours of the murder.

“Following the arrest, we nabbed another male suspect at a petrol station in Pekan Benut at about 5pm on the same day.

“The last suspect, who is a 16-year-old girl, was found hiding in a Chinese temple in Pekan Benut at about 9.45pm,” Nusajaya deputy OCPD Deputy Supt Razak Md Said said du*ring a press conference yesterday.

He added that the two male suspects were friends while the third suspect was the girlfriend of one of the suspects.

He also confirmed that the motive was robbery and had ruled out other possibilities.

It is believed that the three and Liew had gotten into a scuffle before the robbers attacked her with a knife.

“The robbers went in prepared with a knife and pointed it to the victim, ordering her to hand over her valuables,” said DSP Razak.

Police believe the suspects began stabbing her with the knife when she refused.

DSP Razak added that the post-mortem report confirmed that Liew, 39, had died due to stab wounds in her abdomen.

It was earlier reported that Liew, owner of a beauty centre in Taman Bukit Indah here, was stabbed to death by three robbers at her shop after they had entered under the pretext of being customers at about 11.30am on Saturday.

The suspects, aged between 16 and 37, are under remand for seven days from Sunday.

If the police is serious, all 3 of them must be given the death penalty. No further pleading is necessary. This will then serve as a deterrent for future wannabes. Period.

Lets hope the political will continues for a long time and a solution is also found for the social aspect.
We cannot have the police to be all around or at this high level of alertness/duty for a long time.
Fatigue will set in hence a long term solution must be address at the social level to have a society that respect the law and fellow humans.

The JB police has been doing such things since 1995 when I was staying there. Till now, has JB become safer?

I guess, reducing crime combines a few factors together.. will of the govt, increased economic activity whereby everyone has work and willingness to work together to create a better and safer environment to stay in.

With the increased investments in Iskandar hopefully the govt will increase it's focus and with more better paying jobs going into Johor perhaps ppl will be less inclined to participate in criminal activity..

Just my own opinion.

Recent case in Penang, fully employed man was caught being a snatch thief by a chinese tourist.
Besides employment the Malaysian gov need a more holistic plan.
Many years ago my uncle house in jb was rob and the poor dog who was the guard was poisoned dead.
My aunt house in kl was burgled twice and she decided to move to a new area.

So nothing new and we just need to be more carefull compared to Singapore.
But the recent spat of killings worry me. Get rob just lose money can work it back. Obviously cannot get life back.

Ok, this is neither JB nor Sg, but the point is, which can apply anywhere, even having an auxiliary police guard ur hse is no guarantee vs determined crooks; this time it's the head honcho of FELDA and former MB of NS, another big shot:

NILAI: Four men armed with machetes broke into the home of Felda chairman Tan Sri Isa Samad in Nilai Springs near here and escaped with personal belongings worth several thousand ringgit early Friday.

The men gained entry into the house after tying up an auxiliary policeman on duty at about 3.30am.

Isa's two daughters, a son-in-law, grandchild and niece were at home when the incident happened. They were not harmed.
Isa, who is former Negri Sembilan mentri besar, and his wife were not at home at the time of the robbery.

Shoot to kill police task force formed

Two special squads formed by Bukit Aman: Zahid

Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said each squad, set up two months ago, consists of 200 highly-trained police officers which would deal directly with targeted groups.

"They will operate out of Bukit Aman, meaning they will not have to go through the state or district police headquarters."

"These are well-trained officers, with each squad led by a police commissioner," he said today after launching the Crime Prevention Forum, held in Bandar Sunway.

He said the squads had been set up with the approval of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, to counter negative public perception of the police's effectiveness in combating crime.

"We need to deal with the perception that police officers are corrupt or are taking bribes," he said.

Zahid said the Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar would have full powers in selecting the members of the squads, which were recently involved in the shooting of five gang members in Penang.

He said the squads would be "colour-blind" in their approach to nab the perpetrators of crime.

"We will not be sympathetic towards any type of criminal, just as criminals do not care who their victims are."

Zahid: 400 highly trained officers for elite anti-crime squad

PETALING JAYA : The police have formed a special squad of 400 highly trained officers to target the big sharks of the drug syndicates.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid said the squad, comprising of two teams, was formed to target drug kingpins as well as waging all-out war against the syndicates.

He explained the Bukit Aman squad, led by a police commissioner, would act independently without going through the state and district police headquarters.
"The squad was formed since I was appointed as the the Home Minister.

"They will hit out at the drug syndicates and the underworld without warning,"
he told a press conference after launching the forum on crime prevention entitled "Current Legislations and other measures to fight violent crimes effectively" here Saturday.

He said the squad would be given special leeway to go after drug kingpins in the country.

“Their main task is to target drug kingpins.

“We want to hit the drug world where it hurts the most by apprehending the big-time players,” he said.

Yes, Valdez thank you for the Good News.

Agree with you on this NB, Human Rights are for HUMANS, "those who prey on the weak and helpless" DO NOT deserve to be considered Humans much less receive any "Rights". Where are the "Human Rights" of the victims of the crimes. Don't the people who are victims deserve the right to go about their lives without having to fall prey to a crime done to them!
NB, your appeal to support Datuk Zahid Elite squad is commendable.

Well done Datuk Zahid......

Very welcoming news .

As a next step I hope the authorities will find out what drive these people to commit crime.
We see news of repeat offenders, are these criminals not rehab sufficiently before their release ?
We also see some ruthlessness in crimes, are these folks really always on drugs ?
Why do they do drugs ? Bad company ? Jobless, desperation ?
I also some accusation about foreigners doing the crime, is this then the fault of bad immigration screening ?
In other forums, I some times see a lack of empathy for the victim, statements like he was not carefull, did not do this or that, or deserve it becuase ...... I wonder why the society has become blaming the victim rather then just saying the crime was wrong regardless of the consequence. It is making excuses for the crime. The mind set needs to change to that of solving the root of the cause.

If the governement do not do something to address the root or research on the social aspect I am afraid we will not have a long term solution.
