Not just Jap companies, Ang Mo MNCs too. You must understand that labour laws in other countries are much stricter than those in Singapore. Retrenchment in those countries is a last resort. If an employee is willing to relocate to another country to avoid getting laid off, the company will redeploy the employee. As labour laws are almost non-existent in Singapore and wages are comparable, you will see this phenomenon happening.

Have to agree on 'the labour laws are almost non-existant in S'pore'. Singaporeans are cheap labour & are kicked around from one sun-set industry to another sun-rise industry, except for those who worked in govt sector, like that Perm Sec who paid $15000 per head for French cuisine.

Our Civil Service and Running Dogs are a sun-set industry with sun-rise prices. They ruin our country by sucking blood like vampires, but their pay and bonuses keep rising.

the happiest lot of expatriates now must be the Japanese - the yen is so high and the amount they earn when converted to Singapore dollars makes their spending power higher.

no wonder you see alot of japanese babes at Meidiya on weekends...kawaii.
