ah peks remarks are insensitive but mean no harm. if WW2 really bother them, suggest they go and hunt down two very old Japanese hanjian among us, one cho boh daily at Istana, the other resides at Oxley Road.

Back then Japan and Germany were the bulwark defense against Soviet Russia expansion in East and West. If Japan collapsed in 1930s via natural disasters, highly likely Soviet Red Army will pour into East Asia, set up satellite states in Korea, Japan and China. Russia will proceed to use "yellow peoples" armies as auxiliary fire against her enemies in Europe - Germany and Britain.

Macro Polo Bridge Incident that started Sino-Japan war was a setup by Chinese Communists and Russia GRU. Many Chinese Commies in 1930s were not under Comintern as they claimed but were directly working for Russia GRU. ( military intelligence )

If I can chose a catastrophe to fall where to "prevent" WW2, it will not be Japan or Germany but Moscow Russia.

i agree with you.communist education really make most chinese into hertless being like this...

cannot stereotype all PRC like this.

one reason why some Chinese today are still so angry and bitter toward Japan WW2 invasion are that the numerically superior Chinese armies fought a very bad campaign against Japanese forces. ( numerous defeats ) That war was a damage of national pride to the PRC nationalists.
they fail to understand that majorities of Chinese army then were inferior equipped ( 5 soldiers to 1 rifle  ) and badly trained compared to the modern, well-equipped Japan army.

PRC also never educated her peoples how CCP troops 拖后腿 National Revolutionary Army for 8 long years making China desperate situation even worse.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs is reported to have sent a message to Apple staff regarding the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan. The contents of the email were posted to Chihouban.com (via Macotakara), and MacRumors had also received a copy of it independently. The email was said to have been sent to all Apple employees.

Apple has set up Red Cross donations through iTunes, and delayed plans to launch the iPad 2 in Japan due to the recovery efforts. We also previously reported on Digg founder Kevin Rose's email correspondence with a friend in Japan relaying Apple's efforts to support its customers and employees in the aftermath of the earthquake.

International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Yukiya Amano (L) talks with Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan (R) prior to their talks at Kan's office in Tokyo on March 18, 2011. Japan resumed water cooling operations at a quake-hit nuclear plant on March 18 using a fleet of fire trucks, as workers racing against time to avert catastrophe ran a power supply cable to the site.

IAEA chief: not visiting Japan nuclear plant on current trip
Fri Mar 18, 2011 5:53am GMT
TOKYO, March 18 (Reuters) - The head of the U.N. atomic watchdog on Friday said he would not be visiting the site of the devastated Fukushima nuclear plant on his current trip to Japan.
Yukiya Amano, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, told reporters that a team of scientists would go in the direction of the plant to conduct investigations, but he was not sure how near they would go due to the radiation. (Reporting by Isabel Reynolds)

It has been confirmed by the IAEA the level of nuclear accident at Fukushima Daiichi has been raised to 5. There are seven points on the scale. The disaster at Chernobyl in 1986 was at 7 on the scale. Three Mile Island, America's worst commercial nuclear accident in 1979 was at 5 on the scale. BBC reporter Katie Connolly wrote this on nuclear lessons from that accident.

Shallow spent fuel pool: zirconium oxidizes with steam

Deep pools of circulating water in the attic of the reactor building store and cool the still-hot spent fuel, and shield the room from radiation. The water is constantly cooled, requiring a power source.

If water levels drop, radiation levels in the room housing the pool will rise as the water starts to boil. The steam can react with the zirconium alloy tubes that hold numerous uranium oxide fuel pellets, producing explosive hydrogen gas. If water levels fall to within a few feet of the fuel, radiation becomes too dangerous for anyone to directly access the pool.

box2.jpg

Exposed spent fuel pool: zirconium cladding fire

Once fuel assemblies are exposed to the air, oxidation of the zirconium alloy accelerates, and can theoretically burst into a runaway reaction called a zirconium cladding fire, which could spew volatile, radioactive fission products -- including iodine-131, cesium-137, strontium-90 and plutonium-239 -- into the atmosphere.

Pouring water on a "zirc fire" would fracture super-hot exposed fuel, sending up clouds of steam laced with radioactive elements. Engineers would probably attempt to extinguish such a fire with either sand or foam

How dangerous is the radiation?
Japanese officials reported that radiation levels near the unit 3 reactor at the Daiichi plant Monday morning reached 400 millisieverts per hour. The level was high enough to put workers in close proximity at risk, but the reading was only 8.2 mSv/h at the boundary of the plant site -- less than the dose in the average CT scan. Later observations showed the levels had been decreasing.
