Singapore has more than 4 million population and still increasing, welcoming FT. i believe our sports school costs more than that in Jamaica, if they really have one.
why singapore only has a silver medal in women's table tennis.....
why i bold the women table tennis is because we secured a medal in one of the less profile sports, table tennis and we need women to win a medal for singapore, so pathetic...

However i have nothing against the lee jaiwei and her team. in fact i am happy that she volunteered to be the flag bearer and she brushes the flag on the ground. we cannot blame her.. she just get paid to play for singapore but nevertheless, i believe deep in her heart, she still reminds herself that she is from china. that's why she can smile despite losing to china in final because she is also happy for her motherland, China.
It's actually those people in white who thinks that she is playing with passion for singapore but they could be wrong...she's merely playing for a paid job and noone understands better than herself that her motherland is still china.

jamaica ppl have natural ability and they have nothing to lost in pursuing a sporting career.

in singapore, we dun have natural ability in sports and we are too kiasee.. once you choose a sporting career and you cannot make it, you are confirmed a loser in sinkapore. no other option left

what we have seen is the successes. what will give a clearer picture will be to see those in Jamaica who tried and fail... and where they are now...

I agree. The fear of failure in sports and then having to face an unpromising future in this tough society is driving sporeans away from the sporting arena.

Typical Singaporean physique (average southern Chinese, Malay or southern Indian) is very suitable for weightlifting. Given the same body weight but with a shorter frame, it's easier to lift a heavier load than another with a taller frame.

Little wonder that Singapore's first ever Olympic medal was won in weightlifting. Thailand and Indonesia have also been winning quite a few weightlifting medals quite reguarly. This discipline should deserve further development.

Another discipline that favors the shorter frame is diving. It's easier to complete a set of twists and somersaults with a shorter frame. This should also be looked into.

Agree with Ramseth. If we are focused on winning medals, then we should be promoting sports where we have natural advantages (be it physiological/geographical/blah).

Too bad Weight Lifting & Diving aren't spectator sports. There won't be real public interest, no spectator $$$$. It'd have to be funded with our tax $$$.

Whether we are suitable for this or that is 1 thing. Sportsmen needs to be developed from a young age. If any of you seen the Lee Jia Wei's video, her father was a coach and she was trained very strictly from a very young age and there are thousands of other kids like her who have failed.

So the question to the TS is, will you let your kid go study in some sport school, or give up study all together and train full time to develop his/her full potential which may or may not be enough to reach world-class standard. Or would you rather he/she go JC, then University and end up in some decent paying stable job?? IF you have a choice. Many of these people are born out of poverty with no chance of education and sports is their only way out.

That is true. The majority of Singaporeans do not have the same kind of genetic ancestry as say for example a country which has at least 40 Olympic gold medals??????
