You can’t help but feel acutely the sharp contrast between how Taiwan, South Korea or Japan handled the Corona virus situation viz-a-viz how we have handled the crisis.
Right from the beginning, our wisdom has been shackled tightly by the WHO. WHO says virus not airborne, no need to wear masks, so Singapore too says virus not airborne, no need to wear masks.
But the Japanese knew better. They did’nt need WHO to tell them what to do. Their scientists devised clever methods to show that the virus can stay airborne for long periods of time. The South Koreans also know that and their top doctor in charge of their nationwide fight against corona virus openly disagreed with WHO. The Taiwanese also know the importance of masks and pumped up mask production from 1% to 100% in just a couple of months. The Taiwan government even found a cheap, easy way to sterilise surgical masks for reuse and taught this method to the whole of Taiwan on national television.
In contrast, everything we do are copied from others. Even then, there are so many things we couldn’t copy and we are always one, two steps behind.
You can’t help but attribute this to the fact that Taiwan, South Korea and Japan are more vibrant democracies whose peoples can more easily think out of the box and who aren’t shackled by any one central authority.
Contrast this to Singapore. We are so...https://trulysingapore.wordpress.com/2020/04/06/virus-handling-contrast/
