Singapore Democrats
This National Day weekend, we invite you to join us in our enthusiastic celebration of Singapore's birthday - our inaugural Singapore Day Party 2011!
What does National Day mean to you? Every year, on 9th August, Singaporeans come together to sing "Happy Birthday" to Singapore. On this momentous day 46 years ago, we gained our independence and pledged to "build a democratic society based on justice and equality."
In May this year, Singapore made a few baby steps towards fulfilling our pledge when the people supported the opposition in record numbers, reducing the ruling party's vote percentage to a historic low of 60.1 percent. This would not be anything to boast about in the democratic world. In fact it would only draw ridicule and boisterous laughter. But here in Singapore, the Singapore Democrats see this as hope for a brighter and democratic future.
The SDP loves Singapore. The love for our country is as enduring and as it is sacrificial. This is why the SDP has initiated numerous community projects to help the less privileged. This is also why we came up with an alternative economic plan, a Shadow Budget plan and an unremitting vision of a kinder and more compassionate Singapore.
We will not lose hope. We strongly believe that Singapore can be a better place. And it is up to us to make the difference. To us, this National Day is all about embracing the possibilities of what Singapore can be.
We cordially invite you to attend our Singapore Day Party celebration next Saturday, 6 Aug 11.
Date: 6 August 2011, Saturday
Time: 7pm - 10pm
Tickets: $30/adults, $8/child (12yo and below)
Be entertained by a wonderful line up of activities throughout the evening including photo-taking, table games, and a “Don’t forget the lyrics” Singapore song edition.. Come meet and dance with Singapore's favourite bear, Danny. Enjoy the company of good friends and family. And yes, there will be dancing too!
This get-together is also a great opportunity for our supporters and families to get to know each other better with great food and even greater friends.
The event is also a fund-raiser and the proceeds raised will go a long way towards our fight for Singapore's future, including the many programmes that we have planned for the community.
So, bring your family and friends to our Singapore Day Party as we Remember Our Past, Cherish Our Present and Create Our Future!
