possibly ,but may i suggest you read the book entitle ,The Malay Archipelago written by Wallace a good friend of Darwin...the interesting part was the lingo spoken pre Bahasa ...such diversity...like India ...and even today the Minang bahasa spoken has remarkable resemblance to the Kelatanese...you may say because of the champ empire ..

There are more than just one lake toba, which happens tonbe the biggest, on the west coast of sumatra. There are many more lakes that were created when the volcanic cone collapsed.

And on the many islands off west coast sumatra, there are potential to be another " Bali". With surfing beaches and all.

spot on ! you are absolutely right ...Kota Pandang is indeed in western sumatra ...and is a global surf paradise ....there are American based there operating surfing business ...use to meet an entire flight full of passangers heading there to surf...only surfing and nothing else as these chaps are pros ...met the operator over lunch and we discussed but mainly to exchange escape plans should there be an earthquake or tsunami....you see ,every scientist had predicted the destruction of this town by tsunami in the next 30 years...but when exactly no body knows.
