Is it necessary to have an oral surgeon to remove your wisdom tooth ?

When I removed my 2nd molar, I needed the gauze for a full day. I had the tooth removed in the afternoon, and after replacing 2 pieces of gauze I sought to have it removed completely. Within seconds blood started gushing out of the hole and I had a mouthful of blood. I kept the gauze until the next morning.
My uncle ask did you leeplaced your 2nd molar with implant or denture?

No, I did not because it cannot be seen. My 3rd molar impacted the 2nd molar, so I removed the broken and rotten 2nd molar. Now 3rd molar has lots of space to roam. If I do an implant, I will be placing an obstacle in front of my 3rd molar for it to bang again.

Lucky you. My uncle has to do leeplacement for 1st molar as it is verlee uncomfortable to have a gap for 1st molar.:frown:

Yup. In fact I'm thinking of getting my another wisdom tooth extracted to avoid future problems. Will probably do it before end of the year.
Better do it fast. Inflation is a good excuse for many service providers to double on pricing.

I blame my phobia of going to the dentist on that old bitch primary school dentist of mine way back in 86. She was a terrifying sadistic bitch.
I find some dentist very sensitive when they see that your teeth were not done by them. I remember one female dentist asked where I did my crowning after I opened my mouth for her to inspect. She questioned me for not letting her clinic do the job and took revenge for not applying the numbing cream when she tried to pull my decayed teeth. After that, she sarcasitically said I was very "tolerance" to pain pain. I never went to her again after that incident.

Another incident happened at night when my cavity was giving me pain, I rushed to a Bukit Batok clinic nearest my company. A young guy, look like newbie, inspected my teeth applied cavity sealer. After that, he said he was going to teach me how to brush my teeth. He took off the water drainer from my mouth, My saliva began to flood slowly inside my mouth and with some blood fresh in it, he dipped a toothbrush into my salvia inside my mouth and showed me how to brush my teeth. I gagged terribly until he stopped. I complained to the nurse at the cashier, and she didn't say anything.

Now, I always go back to my own dentist for 20 years already.

I believe by this time the roots of your wisdom tooth have already touched the nerves in your jaw. And we are back to my original post.

Do you have to choose between a general dentist and oral surgeon ? I'm not sure if there is anything the oral surgeon could do to avoid bruising or, worse still, damaging your nerve (while twisting and turning to extract your wisdom tooth) that a general dentist could not.

The difference between an ordinary dentist and an oral surgeon is the latter is trained in IV sedation, whatever that means.

If the tooth is above the surface of your gum, and incision and subsequent stitching is not required, does one need an oral surgeon to perform the task ?

Even if the root of the tooth touches the nerve in the lower jaw, the oral surgeon is still unable to avoid bruising the nerve when extracting the tooth.
lianbeng thinks the difference is in the price lah! you pay more or less lor.
