Fresh grads getting $5000 starting pay.
Many people around me getting $8000-15000 a month, seems like norm.
Food is so expensive now, I take just 1-2 meals a day.
Even dining out is less frequent these days because of inflation.

Is everyone coping well, or is it just me?

I have enough for CNY spendings, but it is tight.
so i am contemplating to surrender a life policy for cash.

If there is a lock-down this coming CNY, then my cash will not be so tight.
Don't need to visit, don't need to interact too.

Living SHELTERED lives in Singapore will often makes one feel as you do.

Ultimately, it is what one's self centered expectations that will demoralize oneself in the face of REALITIES.

It is easy to compare what one has in Singapore, to others, & even to neighboring countries on their economy & lifestyles, as the grass is seemingly greener on the other side WITHOUT looking into the DEPTHS of the social & economic issues they faced daily.

Such perhaps is TOO DEEP even for the Sheltered Singaporean fresh grad to even begin to understand, till he/she goes on a sabbatical vacation to TRULY see the World beyond what is portrayed on social media, youtube & worse tik tock & truly live life beyond expectations on financial terms...

It is not just you but then the world has evolved. Thanks to inflation and taxation. Plus all kinds of gadgets you dont really need decades ago.

Yes, it is just you. Everyone is having the best time ever with cdc vouchers.

I have reduced my social gatherings in the past few months, especially the recent Christmas. While i feel that many of such occasions are just show-off sessions, having less of social life also saves me quite a lot of money.

KTV is so expensive now. Pub Drinking is not cheap too. Either will cost me 1-3 days of wages.

Do i feel more lonely? not really leh, since likely no woman will offer sleep with me for a meal in the first place. Even less family gatherings make me feel more peaceful. Overall, better for my pockets and mental state.

Congratulations , you have been enlightened.
It's best to live and enjoy at our own pace.
Social gatherings are a waste of time, effort and money. End of the day we get nothing out of it.

Just make sure when he goes to JB, he won't be accused of whistling by someone who goes there frequently.

If he plays his card right, he can bunk in with her, and fuck her hokkien cheebye for free too. I am sure she will blanjar him at the pub. Instead, come here on the forum and waste bros time with his belly aching.

I think young people below 40s will find it harder. They are in their prime-home buying years and they need to slog more years to pay off housing loans than their parents, assuming their don't lose their jobs.

Inflation, job-losses and housing costs are worse than what is reported. With such economic landscape, husband and wife will need to work and childcare costs are escalating too. Even PRCs are investing in our childcares, bringing in their own staff and abusing our kids. I will not be surprised that rates of anxiety and depression among new parents would have surged.
